Anyone no what's going on?

My daughter was stillborn 7 weeks ago, normal delivery and I got a bfn on an IC 2 weeks later, bleeding stopped after 4 weeks and then 2 weeks later I got a BFP on a FRER (still negative on an IC) but then my period started the following day, so I assumed a chemical pregnancy.

However AF finished yesterday so I did another FRER this morning just to check and I STILL got a faint positive (and still bfn on IC). What is going on? Is it still retained products from birth? Because I didn't think you could get hormone left over from a chemical? And I'm deffiently not pregnant because the tests are getting lighter. It's frustraiting worrying that there could be some left over products now if anyone has any clues id be very greatful!

Thanks you Navy. Just to see if the hormones had decreased back down as we want to try again. And my body has massively failed me in my last pregnancy so I guess I just don't trust it now and I'm worried il end up with some problem that will stop me being able to try again, probably sounds crazy I no!

GP doesn't have any appointments yet but I am trying to get an appointment

I'd imagine it takes quite a long time for your hormones to get back to normal. I'm so so sorry about your daughter. I've been there so I know how awful it is

Sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks and it took 5 weeks for me to get a negative on a first response test, so it can take a while. I had a small clot remaining which they thought may be causing low hormone levels to hang around, didn't require any treatment, it just resolved itself.

It might be worth asking for an ultra sound so they can check for any retained products just incase.

Thanks, the GP said if the levels are high they'll send me for a scan but if not then they won't, but il be 8 weeks post birth by then so you'd think if everything's ok they'd be back to 0 by then. I just hope whatever it is gets resolved quickly

When will you get the results? It could just be a tiny bit of placenta or something that needs a little help to come out, or your levels may have gone down now. Fingers crossed for you, the last thing you need is additional stress ontop of all you're going through.

Next Monday, the GP advised me to stop using home pregnancy tests and to just wait for the results but I can't help myself. After this I'm never using a FRER again tho, those things are too sensitive for their own good! Iv tried 4 other brands and the FRERs are the only ones that have picked anything up

Just updating as I find it so frustraiting when the OP doesn't come back!

GP said the blood test results showed the hgc hormone as less than 2, which she says is too low to be any products left behind and so it's just my body's hormone levels still levelling out after birth (8 weeks ago now) and that my body just isn't ready to get pregnant again yet.

So that means I'm one of the rare women who just gets false positives on FRERs as no pregnancy test should be able to detect levels that low, it was still positive this morning too so I just need to throw my FRERs away and hope my body returns to normal soon

That's good news in a way I suppose Alb. I think hcg leaves urine slower than blood the same way it's detected earlier in blood, so maybe that's why you're getting the false positives? How are you feeling?

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

Have your periods returned to normal? As in, frequency and length, consistency etc? It's still early days since your loss so your body may still be adjusting, but I only ask as I had an hcg of 5 after my loss at 19+6 which did not go back to 0. 12 weeks post delivery, I and an ultrasound confirmed I had "retained products". I am not telling you this to worry you, but just share what happened to me as we were so keen to try again and we are still waiting now six months on (hcg levels delayed rmc testing). I was fobbed off and told it would go on its own accord, but I've had two early losses prior to this, one of which went on for ten months as I was never followed up, and have needed surgery every time. I vowed to myself I would share my story to help others as the prolonged miscarriage was emotionally harrowing and we have lost so much time and don't want anyone else getting a misdiagnosis. Your gp may. Very well be right, but I know that absolute worry that your body is not "right". I'm sure everything will be absolutely fine, I'm a rare case, hope you don't mind me sharing xx

Hi, thanks for sharing, iv had the same worry to be honest, but the GP said I can go for another blood test in another week so if it's not back to 0 by then I can push for more investigation. Iv only had 1 period since giving birth as I only gave birth 9 weeks ago, so bled for 4 weeks, then got a normal period 2 weeks after that which I'm taking as a good sign. Sorry to hear about all the trouble you've had, and about your baby, it's such an awful time not knowing what's going on, I just want to have the hope back of being able to try so it's frustraiting to keep getting held back
