How long after MMC did you have first period?

Just that really. Had medical management of a MMC on 11th March - when should I expect first period? I was 11 weeks by dates but embryo was measuring 7 weeks. Thanks

Am really sorry for your loss. I think they say 4-6 weeks. I am in a similar situation, I had a mmc at 9 weeks where the baby was measuring 7 weeks. Had an EPRC on 11th March and still waiting for my period. Have had no sign of ovulation, have you? Is medical management an EPRC or did you have pills?

So sorry for your loss too, bonbon . Sorry not clear on the terminology - I had the pessary then waited for it to pass 'naturally'. I wish I'd had the other option of surgery but that's another thread... Is ERPC the surgery option?

I got my first period after surgical management (so possibly slightly different) a mere 24 days after the surgery. I had only finished bleeding about a week or so before that, so j was shocked to be bleeding again so soon. I gather it does vary, and it's not unusual to have a ridiculously long or short (as in my case) cycle for the post-mc "wtf" cycle.

Sorry yes I mean ERPC not EPRC (no idea what it actually stands for!). Yes this is the surgical option, I just wanted it over with as quickly as possible but I had almost no bleeding at all afterwards which freaks me out a bit. Hope you're feeling okay.

Thanks both and very sorry for your loss chandelier . I want to try again but am scared of same thing happening Again. Also they say wait until you've had at least one period?

I had surgical management and it took almost eight weeks for me.

I had an ERPC (so again, slightly different to medical management) at 11 weeks pg and got AF 30 days later (usually a clockwork 26 day cycle). The one after that was 23 days, so they were a bit screwy for a while. Afaik they only suggest waiting 1 cycle for dating purposes, as if you fall pg without a period in between it makes it hard to date the pregnancy. Some people prefer to wait a bit to give their body a chance to recover, some try again straight away. It's totally personal choice. I tried straight away; was lucky that it only took a few months to fall pg again, but that intervening time was mentally and emotionally hard. Good luck, whatever you decide!

Heart, I gather the only reason you are advised to wait is for dating purposes, so unless you are given specific medical advice to wait (which I was), I know that lots of people don't and get straight back on with ttc. Tbh, even if I had been given the go ahead, I couldn't have done, personally. Everyone's different but I was glad of the time to grieve, to recharge and to get my head back together, as I had a mc and mmc in the same pregnancy.

There's a ttc after mc thread which is full of lovely folk who have been/are going through mc and will be able to hand hold when you do decide the time is right. There's also another lovely thread on the pregnancy board for those who are pg after mc. Obviously, there are some very sad stories of recurrent mc, but everyone knows that fear and they're simply amazing with support. I can tell you this as I'm on the pg thread now at 19wks

Don't forget to read the "tips and practicalities" thread on this board too. It helped me no end to read about the wide range of experiences of mc.

I would suggest waiting because it drove me nuts trying to figure out things after my silent miscarriage at 10 weeks (baby died at 6) it took 6 weeks for the hormones to go and then I had my first period Christmas Day (which is when I would have been 12 weeks) my body was still all over the place for a bit after that

I invested in a monitor it took a while to figure out my cycle but I found that gave me some idea of what was going on

Doesn't work for everyone but it did help me

I had a mc at 11 weeks in feb I got my first af about 5 weeks later. I did ovulation sticks as I was driving myself insane wondering if my body was back to normal. When I saw I had ovulated it put my mind at rest a bit.

I have started ttc again but I'm terrified (we all are I think!). Come join us on the ttc after mc board even if your not sure if your ready its a really supportive place to talk about how your feeling

I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks(naturally managed) and had first period 35 days later. We then tried again and conceived immediately but I miscarried at 6 weeks. I was tracking ovulation(temping) and know that I ovulated 14 days later so my cycle would have been a normal(for me ) 28 days but I conceived again. I lost this baby at 12 weeks, but a scan had showed it stopped growing at 9 weeks , period came 35 days later.
I am in my forties so the losses could well be attributed to chromosomal abnormalites ,not because I had conceived again so soon after miscarrying.
At the point we decided to give up ttc I discovered I was pregnant again,this one stuck and we have now an unruly toddler who is a joy to all the family,we never thought it would happen!
The threads on here are wonderfully supportive at such a difficult time

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences as I was wondering the same

I had an ERPC 3 weeks ago (MMC at 10w, baby measured 9+3) and I'm still getting blazing BFP lines

My Dr said it could take up to 4 weeks for hCG levels to fall to zero, and that if I'm still getting positives when I come in for my follow up on a week's time, we'll do a blood test.

So doesn't look like I'll get my period any time soon while my body hasn't un pregnanted itself...

Thanks for all these posts it's really helpful to know I'm not the only one in this situation... I had a MC on 12th March and still waiting for HCG to return to 0. The doctors haven't been much help and yesterday told me there is no reason they haven't returned to 0 and should have... And to wait a month before I take a pg test to make sure they are 0... I can't wait another month for my body to return to normal!! I did ask the doctor about trying again, she said there is no medical reason to wait before a period it's just for dating purposes alone, but I'm so scared I'll MC again. I am thinking about starting to track my temperature to see if that helps me know when I'm ovulating... Is so hard when you're all over the place.

My mc and ERPC was 2 days after yours on 14th Mar. My hCG levels are absolutely nowhere near 0 yet, judging by the blazing BFP I got yesterday

As I said, my consultant said it could take up to a month. However they should be investigating further if they are saying your levels should have dropped and they haven't yet. What are they proposing? If they're saying it's not right then what do they suggest? I would ask to be scanned to check for any retained products of conception...

I'm also temping too. My body won't ovulate until my hCG levels drop and it catches up and realises I'm not pregnant any more. So I'll start using OPKs when they do....

I had a scan yesterday and there was no tissue left. My levels were only 750 when I miscarried which is mega low so that's why they think they should be back to zero by now but they won't give me a blood test! They said my period should be back within the next month and if it's not then to go back. My tests are faint positive... Could you be pregnant again if yours are dark?

Definitely definitely can't be pregnant as I haven't had sex in months! I've been on progesterone pessaries since the IVF cycle (and believe me that area is a no go zone while you're taking them - plus we were too scared about DTD in the first trimester, in case I miscarried and we'd look back and worry it was related to anything we'd done. Well that worked out really well then!). Then no sex if you're still bleeding, and I'm still not quite finished spotting, so unless it's an immaculate conception....!!

I was 10 weeks when I miscarried and my levels were in the thousands when I was just 5 weeks, so I imagine they were pretty substantial by the time I miscarried, and I guess the higher the level the longer it will take to fall

Ha ha immaculate conception... Maybe not pg then! I should have been 7 weeks but must have lost the baby early if my levels were so low. I hope it doesn't take too much longer for you.

Hope it clears for you too. It's horrible to be in a holding pattern like this, neither pregnant nor un-pregnant

We'd seen and heard a beautiful heartbeat at 7+1 and 8+5, but sadly at our 10w scan, baby only measured 9+3 with no fetal heartbeat, so it had died a few days earlier

I'm so sorry for you... I don't know how I would cope if I had heard the heartbeat, I sort of feel lucky in a way that it happened so early. Yeah it's so horrible and the limboland makes it worse! Good luck

Hope you're all doing OK ladies (and thanks chandelier )

3+ weeks post ERPC and I am still getting blazing BFPs. Saw Dr for a scan this morning: no retained products, no damage to lining apparent, nothing left behind, we know there was no sign of a molar pregnancy, so there doesn’t seem to be anything sinister going on. Had bloods done, will have results when we’re back in on Monday for our post-ERPC follow up, so we can see where we stand.

Dr says we can crack on with our next IVF cycle as soon as my hormones are back to normal levels - so I hope my hCG is on its way down!

Hi, have just seen all the replies! Hope everyone is ok. My period arrived, which I was not expecting ! It's really heavy and bad cramps. I also still feel a bit sick, in a pregnancy-sickness type way. All very odd....

Yay for AF!

My bloods came back. No wonder I'm still getting BFPs - 25 days post-ERPC and my hCG levels were 420!! They were only 299 @ 10dp5dt (ie 15 dpo) FFS!

It's like Schroedinger's pregnancy - I'm simultaneously both pregnant and not-pregnant. So. Bloody. Fed. Up.
