Natural or induced miscarriage

I had a scan today at 11 weeks that showed my baby died at 7 weeks. I was given the options of waiting to see if I miscarry naturally, induce miscarriage or surgical intervention.

If I haven't miscarried naturally by now then I'm wondering if I should have miscarriage induced.

Hi I was the same. I opted for surgery as baby had died about 4 weeks previous and all I had was mild cramping and v light spotting. I was frightened of going naturally or taking tablets. That's just me.

RoTo I'm starting to consider surgery. How did you find it. I haven't had any symptoms, no cramping or spotting at all.

I took medical management after a mmc at 8+1, personally wouldn't ever do it again and would opt for surgery next time (if there's a next time)

I reacted badly to the medication and lost 1.7 litres of blood, it was - for me. Obviously this is not the same for everyone, or even most people, but my personal option would be surgery now. I didn't want to wait for a natural one as you had no idea when it could start.

I was in the same position in the summer. Opted for surgery. I wanted to get it over with, rather than wait for nature.

The surgery was straight forward for me. Only light bleeding afterwards and little/no pain. I was in at 7am as part of the day surgery intake, op about 9.30, out about 3pm.

I had medical management (at home) and it was very straightforward, had no pain and I bled a lot less than I expected. But I'm still bleeding on and off a month later (despite a scan showing the miscarriage was complete).

I was told that it would be at least a week later if I wanted the surgery and I could take the tablets that night so that helped me make my decision as I didn't want to wait.

sweet I had forgotten to think about timing. I had a miscarriage in August at 6 weeks and it was tough. I'm two weeks further along this time.

I was 10weeks but measuring 8. I'd seen a heartbeat only two days earlier and baby had been growing slow to start but then seemed to speed up (I had a lot of scans due to a medical condition). I was having some spotting and so figured that if I couldn't have surgical for a few days i'd probably end up miscarrying naturally before it happened. I preferred the tablets because they gave me slightly more control. I took them at bedtime and woke in the night to actually miscarry.

sweet I'm sorry - that must have been hard after actually seeing the heartbeat.

Surgery went well for me. Slight spotting and light bleeding on and off from I had it. And period like cramps, tho not as bad.

With surgery I think that there is a slight risk of something going wrong, affecting later fertility. Worth checking up on.

I had surgical management at 11weeks (baby died at 7 weeks). It was fine, obviously horrible to be sitting waiting to go to into surgery but the staff were very nice & it was painless. I found the days after surgery very difficult emotionally and was all over the place.

I had very little bleeding initially but they didn't get it all so I passed the rest naturally then the bleeding stopped. My period returned 3.5 weeks later.

So sorry your going through this

I've decided to go with surgery. I was talking to a nurse today and overall medical management would be quite drawn out. It would have to take place in the hospital as well. The ward just needs a day or two notice for surgery and then it's a day procedure.

Helga - just wondering how you are getting on? I miscarried on 7/1/16 a medically induced after a scan at 11+6 showed the baby stopped growing at around 9 weeks.
