Early scan after a MMC

Does anyone know if it's possible to have an early scan for reassurance in a pregnancy after a MMC?
I miscarried last month and we're going to TTC again. DH suggested I ask for an early scan for reassurance if there's a next time. I wasn't in the UK when I had my MMC (and I'm still not), so I can't ask my GP.

I'm not sure if the would but you could always ask! A private one at 8 weeks is normally not that expensive.

You could see if your hospital has an early pregnancy unit ! I know I will apply & hope they see me. Even if it's for blood tests to make sure hormone levels continue to rise !
Most 3D clinics do normal early ones as early as 6weeks , I'm coming from Ireland but the uk are similar enough & I've spent time in the uk so been to healthcare etc !

I had one at the EPU at eight weeks.

I had an ectopic pregnancy which ruptured so the EPU was fairly insistent that I always go in at 6 weeks for a scan.

Depending on the area you're in you should be able to go there without seeing your GP. Just say you've got pain in your side or something and they'll def see you :)

I also had a MMC at 12 weeks so know how devastating that can be. Sorry to hear what you're going through Bony.

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks last september. When i fell pregnabt again I was offered a reassurance scan at 8 weeks, but in the end I didn't have it as I would only have felt reassured for a short time before worrying again for 4 weeks til the next one, in case I'd subsequently miscarried and not known.
This wasn't an easy choice to make but for my own sanity it was the right one for me.
Just wanted to give you another perspective
As PPs have said though, a reassurance scan costs between 50 and 80 pounds in my area so not too bad if the NHS say no, as some trusts do unless you've had 3 losses.

Thank you everyone. I'll see if we have an EPU locally if it comes to it. Our baby died at 10 weeks, so I see your point Whatthefreak but at least it would break up the periods of worrying iyswim. I've got my first AF since my D&C, which feels oddly ok as we were advised to not try again for a bit.

Oh, what was the reason for not trying again too soon? I was told there was no need to wait at all (just as well!)

Hopefully the EPU will see you then and give you the reassurance you need. The private wing of my local hospital also offered reassurance scans at £85 so this might be another option for you?

I have had early scans after an ectopic, a tfmr and a mmc. I have just always said I wanted one and I have been revered. They won't do one before at least 6 weeks though as they can't see anything.

Just be aware they won't keep sending you for scans. It's so hard not to worry but try and relax. Wishing all the luck in the world xx

Ps. I was also told to wait 3 months before trying again after my D&C for the mmc.

Giving my body time to recover and for hormones to get back to normal. Interestingly I was told to wait 3 months by the doctor in Switzerland but a friend in the UK was told a month.

There's food for thought either way (it was tough seeing the confirmation scan of my MC after having the standard 6 week scan here).

I'm sorry for your loss bony. I had a mmc in March this year and asked my epu for a reassurance scan when I found out I was pregnant again. They said they didn't so them so I guess each trust is different. I did end up going for a private scan just past the point where we lost which was great for the 24 hours it reassured me but the worry soon set back in.
We waited a month before trying again and were very fortunate to catch again on that cycle. This was following advice given by the hospital docs.

I've been given early reassurance scans in each pregnancy since I started having mcs, it was never a problem. Either ask your midwife or GP, mine were very understanding and arranged it for me.
I would recommend to wait until at least 8 weeks, though, anything before that is still very much up in the air.

I was hoping to have an early scan recently as I'm pregnant again after a mc in August and they said NO. They will not scan under any circumstances before 8 weeks but won't even book me in for one then. It is yet another postcode lottery you face with this one. I would think it would make sense to have a scan as am spotting brown and have been for 7 days now. But they have no interest. I have also had blood tests done Monday and Wednesday this week to look at hcg levels to see if they are rising and have just been told I won't get those results until Monday at the earliest. Not what you want to hear when it feels and appears a mc may be happening again. there are just no answers.

Private early scans are easy to book though but only from 6w or 7w. I'm currently 4+5 so still have a torturous wait for any answers. I'm going to have one at 6w (if we make it that far along) which costs £70. There are loads of other clinics locally that will scan from 7w which cost anything from £40 per scan so loads of options.

How long will you be in Switzerland for? Hopefully long enough to get your "routine" 6w scan. Sounds amazing!

Best of luck op, dr's in the uk generally (from what I hear from ladies on here) and in my experience say you don't need to wait.

We're going home next week Vap0. Tbh the 6 week scan made things worse. I'd seen the heartbeat, then there was none.
Well, remembering that has changed my mind about having an early scan. Thanks for your advice everyone.
