Cervix closed but still a miscarriage?

Hi, just a question, my sister is currently experiencing cramps, and bleeding which has got progressively worse and is now containing blood clots. She has been to the hospital and doctor, both have said it probably is a miscarriage but is yet to go for a scan. Aparently her cervix is still closed though. She is feeling very upset and confused, as she doesnt know what to expect if she miscarries naturally..everything is really frightening for her. The sad thing is we were only about two apart in our due dates, so as I am having a scan seeing our baby for the first time she is having this heart ache and no one is telling her what to expect
What else could this be?
Many thanks x

Hi SmilingKiwi, so sorry your sister is going through this. If her cervix is still closed, I believe that is a good thing. They really need to do a scan to detect the heartbeat and see what is going on.

People bleed all during pregnancy for different reasons. Some is because people are having a M/C, but others go on through their pregnancy. My mums friend bleed all the way through her pregnancy and was fine or there can be a problem that is causing the bleeding.

The early pregnancy unit at the hospital should arrange a scan and answer any questions your sister has.

When it happened to us, my husband had to insist on a scan. We went to see a consultant at 18 weeks in the end, but really wished we had forced the issue and seen him much earlier. (I had an issue with my placenta).

Has she got a midwife? call her and they can even come out to your sister..

Wishing her all the luck in the world and hope that the bleeding settles down and baby is ok.. xx

When I first started bleeding with my m/c my cervix was closed and was told there was no obvious sign of m/c. However, two days later I was in hospital having a D&C. Sorry to say the only way to be sure would be to have a scan. Good luck for your sis. It may be good news for her

Thanks for you messages ladies, my Sister has had a D&C after trying to mc naturally, too much pain and no progress.... surgeon said some was attached very well and she would have been unlikely to to mc naturally. She is physically feeling better, but now has the grief process to work through... I had my first antenatal app today which went well, so its a bit bitter sweet. Thanks once again and take care x

my thoughts are with both of you, my sil and i were in a v similar position our ds's are 11 weeks apart and she's 20wks pg and i miscarried 3m ago for the 3rd time. i am genuinly happy for her and sad for me at the same time, you will feel awkward around her but try not to exclude her from the plans and suggest to her dp that he should take her to dinner on her due date and make it a v special day for her

Hai everyone.
At 6 week pregnant I experience bleeding with cramps and during the process I also had clothing ,when the bleeding started I visited the hospital and the doctor told me that the is no way I can loose the pregnancy and that my cervix is closed ,my bleeding took 1 week and 2 day ,so after a week I took a home pregnancy test that showed negative. My question is can a cervix open during the bleeding process or how? Cause am really confuse because now even my breast are not swollen, no tenderness any more.please her
