First period after miscarriage

Hi,

I miscarried at 10 weeks on 1 September. I've been a bit up and down but went back to work two weeks after and have generally been ok.

A couple of days ago my first period since the miscarriage started and it seems to have taken me right back a month. My period is horrible and very heavy, I'm really uncomfortable. I'm also desperately sad and am just finding everything so hard and exhausting.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm really hoping it'll lift soon. As I've been 'ok' for a couple of weeks everyone seems to think that everything has moved on, and yet all of a sudden I feel like I'm right back to the beginning.

I'm going through similar. M/C 5th Sept, bled for 2 weeks. Got first period yesterday. Today it's so heavy that I don't want to go out. Been very up and down this week, lots of tears (but it was baby's cremation this morning).

Think I read somewhere that the first one tends to be much heavier than usual. I was expecting pretty awful pmt too.

Hope things settle for you over next few days.

Sorry you're going through this. I mc-ed back in March and the first period afterwards was the worst I've had in my life. Just take some time to yourself, it will end, my next one was totally fine. I did find that it made me feel worse mentally too, it's like a setback in recovery, but once was over I felt much better. Hope it's the same for you.

I.miscarried at 11 weeks on the 28th. I came on last week.

I curled up in bed, read, had baths and cried lots. Personally I think I'm finding it harder now than I was initially

Look after yourself Flowers

Thank you so much for your messages. I'm really sad to hear about your experiences but it's oddly comforting to know that you've been through similar. Ive found it so hard that it seems impossible to get any information through an official route and have for more support and information from these forums than from any website / medical professional!

Thank you x

OP, so sorry for your loss. I miscarried in March and the period I had after was horrific, so heavy and very painful. Ovulation since the mc was also painful for me so god knows what was going on with my body. I also found these boards to be a great source of support in what was a very lonely and isolating experience in rl.

So sorry for your loss. I think it is really really common for the first period to be different - mine was heavier too - but my periods went back to normal after that. Try and be kind to yourself and allow a little grief again - I think it makes it all hit home again Flowers

My experience was that hormones went a bit haywire after miscarriage, but it was more of a chemical pregnancy, 2 times, when I was trying to get pregnant. I will say that doctor recommended taking 400 micrograms Folic Acid daily - and after I started that, I did not miscarry again. That's probably common knowledge, but I always worry that maybe people don't know, as I didn't.
