What are my chances? Experiences please...

I recently started bleeding v lightly -- I'm about 9 weeks pregnant. I went for a private scan and was devastated to be told that the gestational sac was completely empty (and also measuring at 6+4 not 9+1).

Next day MW told me to go and get checked out at A&E. Several frustrating hours later I had another scan to be told there WAS a baby in there, but small (6+4) and no visible HB.

Since then I've been having mainly light bleeding with occasional heavier bits and some period type pain.

If I hadn't had the first scan I would probably feel really gloomy about the situation. But as the news was more positive than the first scan I can't help hoping that my dates are off and all will be well.

Am I completely deluded? I haven't ever experienced this before -- have older DC whom I appreciate more than ever now!

So sorry you're going through this. I'll be honest, in the same situation it didn't end well for me. However, in the hours I spent online searching for similar stories there were some people where it worked out. Personally, I couldn't help but hold onto a little bit of hope until I was given a 100% definite result.
What's the plan for you? Will they rescan in a week?

How sure are you that you're 9 weeks pregnant? What are you going by? Last menstrual period? Ovulation?

When did you first do a positive pregnancy test?

How sure are you on dates? 3 weeks is quite a long way to be out if you usually have regular cycles. Were you tracking ovulation in any way?

I'm sure of LMP date (7 April) but not sure precisely when we DTD. My cycles are about 25 days so I think I tested around 28 days -- not much room for a late ovulation there :-(

Doc said it was 50/50 and asked me to have another scan in 10 days.

My breasts aren't as sore as they were and I'm not feeling so sick so I suppose I should just face reality :-(

I have been in this situation twice.
First time it was a missed mc. Second time it was all fine, if a little terrifying.

Second scan a week or so later is the only way to know, so they can measure growth, or not, to confirm.

If you had a positive pregnancy test 5 weeks ago and a scan is showing a very small baby and no heartbeat, I would very sadly say that it's extremely unlikely this will have a positive outcome.

I don't like being pessimistic and generally take the view that with early scans, there's always a little hope if you don't see what you expected. However, bleeding and the positive pregnancy test being so long ago, I would not be feeling hopeful.

I'm so sorry and I have been there. It's gut wrenching and it's all the worse for not really knowing for certain.

I really do hope there's a miracle out there for you and either way, I wish you the very best. I hope you have lots of good support around you and the best of care from your local health teams.

Definitely get another scan in a week or so. It's possible, if not very likely, that the pregnancy could be viable at that point. Hugs.

I've got my answer now - deluge of bleeding and worse pain than I expected.

Feeling v sad and weepy though I thought I was prepared given all the bad signs (the yolk sac was also enlarged btw which Google told me was a bad sign).

I'm so grateful for the advice and tips and solidarity on MN.
