Is it happening again?

Hi, advice needed please...

I miscarried at 11+3 last summer. We've been trying again for the past couple of months & my period is now late (not sure exactly how late as periods all over the place since mc but at least a week). I POAS yesterday and today and got very faint BFPs both times (really had to look closely but there was a very faint line). This evening I've had cramping and brown kinda gloopy spotting.

I don't really know what's going on, if I definitely am pg or not and if so is this the start of another miscarriage?

Do you know how many days post ov you are if your cycle length varies? You may just be early and so only getting a weak positive, or it could sadly be a chemical pregnancy where it fails soon after implantation and AF will arrive. No way of knowing other than hanging in there, but I appreciate how difficult that is. Offering a hand to hold whilst you wait it out Flowers

I took a digital test this morning which was better as a definite postive. I've also been to see my GP who was lovely and so understanding. He thinks it could be implantation bleeding but obviously too early to tell. I'm 6+3.

I've got a scan booked at the EPU next week. Keeping everything crossed xx

very positive with a stronger test and going to the GP with a EPU scan next week.

I don't mean to be patronising, but... please do rest, take time for yourself and don't put your self out. Give your body time to work it all out.

Thank you both, so good to be able to share on here.

Yes GP has advised time off work & putting my feet up so that's what I'm doing. Nothing else matters to me at the moment, I so badly want this one to make it xx

Good luck purple flower. Like everyone says it's the waiting game at the moment.

But just to share a (so far) positive story, I misscarried at 11.5 weeks last October. Got pregnant again in December and the day after my positive test I started bleeding, somewhat like a light period. It lasted less than 48 hours. I wasn't sure if I'd miscarried again. Tests kept showing positive. I then had 10 days trouble free before the spotting again, every day between weeks 6-9! Mainly light brown, bit occasionally pink and even a bit red. Scans at 6+2 and 8+2 showed everything was fine and no reason could be seen for the bleeding. I'm now 13+2 and everything seems to be ok. The spotting has settled now, touch wood.

Apparently some woman just have some bleeding in the first trimester. The wait is agony though to see what way it's going to go. I hope everything works out well for you.

Can I just ask whether you had any cramping with the bleeding/spotting? I've had more bleeding today, heavier (but still only when I wipe, not soaking a pad) and more red with some small clots but I've also had quite bad cramps which is what's worrying me (as I type this it doesn't sound to me like it could be anything other than mc)

Trying to stay positive but it's so hard xx

Hi Purpleflower, how are you today? Has the spotting settled at all?

I didn't really have painful cramps while I was spotting, although there was one day where it did feel a bit uncomfortable and I was sure the pain was on the way as it was the same day I had the red spotting, which was heavier than the other days. I did have occasional crampy feelings though, which I think is just normal stretching pains, but nothing all that painful.

When I was going through this I put up a thread on Mumsnet and had over 40 responses, mostly from people who had experience with bleeding during pregnancy. From memory some of them had experienced pain ...

Sorry I can't be of more help ... I know how horrible it is waiting. Could EPU see you for a scan any sooner to put your mind at ease? I had a scan at 6+2 and was able to see a heartbeat, which was reassuring at that point ...

Hi, thanks for your message.

It's getting worse to be honest, more bright red bleeding and clots with cramping, not that painful though.

I didn't know whether to contact the EPU or not, I thought it might be a bit early for them to see anything anyway but from what you've said maybe not? It would certainly help my mental state to be seen a bit earlier, although I feel certain now that this is another miscarriage.

To make matters worse, today was my due date for the first baby I lost last year Sad xx

So sorry to hear this, it's a horrible coincidence that this was your previous due date too.

I think definitely call EPU and try to get in as soon as possible for a scan - its torture waiting and not knowing what's going on. From my experience EPU were really good at getting me in quickly, I just explained that I had a miscarriage in my previous pregnancy & they were very sympathetic about my anxious mental state!

Hi, thanks for the messages and sorry for the late reply.

So scan confirmed early miscarriage, I've stopped bleeding now and getting bfn when poas so looks like it's over.

I just can't believe it's happened again Sad

Purple flower - so sorry to read your post. I found my second miscarriage the hardest.

I could accept having one but number 2 felt really unfair. It also made me think there might be a problem rather than just a matter of chance.

Please remember though that having had 2 MCs the chance of your next pregnancy succeeding is only slightly lower than someone who has never miscarried. The odds remain well and truly in your favour.

I did go on to have another and was referred for testing. No cause found but next pregnancy did work out (despite multiple trips to EPU with bleeding)

Be kind to yourself. Allow yourself to wallow and grieve. MCs are shit.

It feels so cruel that I have to go through it again and like you Annie it makes me think there must be something wrong with me.

Feeling so sad and dejected, I can't imagine ever being ready to try again.

So sorry to hear your sad news Purple. I hope you are looking after yourself and taking it easy.

I can imagine it's hard at the moment to think positive about next time, or even to think about a next time at all. But a good friend of mine had two miscarriages last year - one at 6 weeks and one at 10.5 weeks - and she's now 39 weeks pregnant with a son on the third attempt.

Like Annie says, and like EPU told me when I was afraid I was miscarrying this time, having two miscarriages only increases your chances of another one slightly. It could be that you've just had really terrible, cruel luck to have two in a row.
