Trying again

Hi.
I have never used a blog but thought I would try.
3 days ago I miscarried.We only found out last week I was pregnant and I was only 5 days late.The docs said I was 6 weeks pregnant.We were so happy.We have only being trying 3 months.I am really up and down and am slowly stopping bleeding.I have been signed off work for the week and am ok I think.The EPU adviced us to wait till my nxt period to try again as its difficult to get dates.We wana start trying again soon.Has anyone else tried straight after successfully or did it end badly again.I feel a bit mixed up.

So sorry for the loss of your pregnancy, I went through this two months ago, very similar situation. It's heartbreaking, but you'll start to feel better soon. Take it very slowly and look after yourself.

I was advised to wait three months/three cycles, which I'm going to do. I was told by the midwife that the risk of miscarrying again is increased if you fall pregnant again too soon after miscarriage.

Make sure you're taking your vits/folic acid etc too. And good luck for when you decide to try again! Three months goes quickly and I've needed that time to recover emotionally. 10th Jan, we'll start trying again

Thanks for your quick reply.I feel down today and my husband has been very supportive but now thinks I should stop thinking about it.I know its my hormones.3 months?I hope you feel better about things.Im generally a strong person and just want things to go back to normal quickly.Good luck I really hope everything goes well for you.

Some women manage to conceive again without having a period in between. Since the first cycle is often longer it makes dating the pregnancy difficult, but that's not a massive problem. TMI but I've often found the first AF is v heavy/clotty, there is obviously material left in there even after a 'complete' MC, and conversely after surgical management often the lining is very thin and might not support implantation. Anecdotally I have seen lots of women on the board who have had back to back losses with no period in between. Most doctors advise waiting for one period to 'reset' your cycle. I'm not aware of any research suggesting benefit to waiting longer than that, it might be worth checking with the miscarriage association in case there is any new evidence.

Many thanks baking tins.I have just checked the miscarriage association website and as you said there is no medical reason or higher risk if I did concieve.Do you no if it is a factual trusted association?
Like I said before I just want to go back to normal and just see what happens.Hope emotionally I can.I think its coz my hormones are all over the place atm.

Yes - I'd believe anything the Miscarriage Association website says - it's a large national charity and they keep an eye on the latest research.

Interesting, no idea why my midwife suggested 3 months... I even asked my GP the other week, and they said the same thing. Weird.

Anyway, yes, I can confirm that my first period afterwards was awful. It came in very heavy, very fast and was a bit clotty. If I were you I'd wait until that's out of the way before trying again.

It's hard, but you'll start to feel better soon. I think the hardest part was the physical reminder every day (in the form of heavy bleeding). Once that stopped (10 days for me), I started to feel more able to move on. Glad to hear your other half is being supportive, but don't feel ashamed to take all the time you need to recover.

I miscarried in October at 16+5 then had surgery afterwards. It took 7 weeks for AF to arrive. Although I didn't think it was any heavier than normal or clotty, it was just a lot more painful, but I have heard stories like above when they have had it heavier and very clotty.
When I went for results two weeks ago as to why it happened they couldn't give me an explanation as everything with me and baby were fine - it was just not my time, I guess.
However they said I can start trying again after my first AF. Hope your AF arrives soon so you can start trying or fall pg before hand

I was told by my EPAU that they suggest waiting one cycle not because of any increased risk of mc but because of difficulty dating the pregnancy if you do not have a period in between.

She was lovely and said we could try again sooner if we wanted to but said a lot of people don't as you can then be left worried after a future scan if they say you are not as far along as you were hoping. In many cases this is just that conception didn't happen when you thought it did but since you will naturally be more worried next time round she said a lot of people prefer to avoid this scenario.

I had my MC in June, waited until July to try again and fell pregnant in August. I'm now 17 weeks so no issues will not waiting 3 months.

Thank you all for replying.I have just stopped bleeding today and feel a bit empty.I cant wait to start trying again to get back to normal.I just cant believe this time last week I was pregnant.

I had a very similar experience myself. I found out i was pregnant. Began bleeding a few days later and miscarried naturally at home. I didn't TTC again but i didn't prevent it either so within TWO WEEKS of my MC i had conceived my perfectly healthy happy 1 year old son.

You have as good a chance as any at your next pregnancy going well.
