Question about testing positive after miscarriage

Can anyone help me with what might be a silly question:
So Thursday I had red bleeding, not loads, Friday night through Saturday very light bleeding which stopped yesterday morning. No clots or stringy bits.

EPU told me my blood hormone levels were very low, and they were unable to find the sac in the womb although lining was thickening so 'the pregnancy was on it's way out'. Today I am still testing positive with a fairly strong line (not really faint or anything). Is this normal? Has this miscarriage finished or does the presence of the pregnancy hormone mean I still have bleeding to come, as I haven't had that much. How long might I expec to test pregnant for? I would only have been between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant. I really just want this to be over so I can move on and think about TTC again when we are ready. Thanks

I had a miscarriage back in may at 5 weeks. The day of the scan to confirm there was no pregnancy they took my blood to test hgc levels which were very low at 20. two days later they had dropped to over half. I was asked to do a test 3 weeks later which was negative so i don't have experience of this. But i just wanted to reply to let you know I know what you mean about wanting it to be over. I felt I couldn't really start to move on until I had that last test out the way and all the correct places had been brought up to date appointments cancelled ect. and I wanted to reply so you know you are not alone and have support at this terrible time XXXX

having a miscarriage is bloody awful.

I tested positive for well over a month after a miscarriage at 6 weeks.

I had some bleeding to start with which stopped pretty quick, then bled on and off over the next month. I ended up getting checked for ectopic pregnancy because I had pains in one side and when they did a scan there was some pregnancy matter still there, which is why I was still testing positive. Once that came out I tested negative about a week later.

I think you just need to keep testing every week or so and keep an eye on the bleeding, also make sure you don't have any pains or feel poorly because I think there is a chance of infection if you don't pass everything successfully.

Thank you so much for replying impatiently. You don't have to answer this at all but did you have a lot of bleeding? Everything I read suggests that there will be very heavy bleeding and clotting, but I haven't really experienced this. Just light, ongoing bleeding with one episode of bright red slightly heavier blood.

I'm glad it's not just me that has felt like this. I am happy to accept I am not pregnant and I understand these things happen but I am finding it hard when I have a positive test. I have another appointment on Friday for more bloods so I hope I will test negative by then.

Slightly confused I'm so sorry about your mc. Has it been confirmed by scan yet?

From personal experience I have had two mcs and tested negative only after my first period after mc, so it took about six weeks.

I had a scan (the internal one) at EPU on Friday morning and she couldn't see a sac in the womb, and bleeding the day before and very low hormones in the blood was all put together as a miscarriage. I rang just now and the doctor said if my test is still positive on Thursday, to come back on Friday for more blood tests. Thanks for the info, interesting to see that the test can come back positive for some time afterwards.

I did another pregnancy test but bought a clear blue digital. It came back pregnant 1-2 and I would be 6-7 weeks now so this reassures me that hormone levels are low and not getting higher, so hopefully this will be over soon. Many thanks for your help all

Hi slightly, I'm going through exactly the same thing just now so can identify completely. I'm so sorry it's happening to you too. I've had bleeding, severe cramps and an empty gestational sac in scan. Cervix still closed so miscarriage not started properly. Hcg lower than it should be. Going for blood test tomorro to confirm hcg is low and then just have to wait for mc to happen. My bleeding isn't heavy it's steady with a few clots.

I know exactly how you feel about wanting it over so you can start ttc again. I feel the same. I just want it to start properly.

Thats ok I don't mind answering your question regarding the amount of bleeding. I wouldn't say looking back it was a lot, although at the time it was awful not knowing. The day I started bleeding it was like my period had started, same amount and (sorry if tmi) it was dark red and I had a lot of painful cramping which carried on for a day or so. The hospital couldn't give me much info and arranged a scan and said to wait to see. I went to see my doctor in between waiting for the scan and she suggested my symptoms could be a chemical pregnancy as they never went past 5 weeks. She said that although it was no consolation it might help me to understand they there was never actually a viable pregnancy. It made me think that the bleeding did seem almost like my period was picking up where it was meant to from about 10 days previous. I think I may have had a episode of bright red blood but cant quite remember. I know that the bleeding seemed to trail off then start up again totaling to 8 days, so it wasn't terribly long, just worrying at the time.

I had the scan, the ultrasound technician was quite harsh and unhelpful and said it may be a miscarriage as I was bleeding quite a lot. She didn't know what a chemical pregnancy was. I had to draw my own conclusion which was a chemical pregnancy and which I thought would help me to be strong. That night though (again im really sorry if tmi) I started to pass clots, stringy bits and what looked like a little bit of material which was really confusing and upsetting. I spoke to my doctor who reassured me it would have been to early for it to have been a sac or anything and that it was just the thickened lining where my body had prepared me for pregnancy, coming away.

Once the hospital had my negative test result they said they could confirm it was a completed miscarriage. Either way it was a loss of a pregnancy and awful and thought to myself I had to think positive and look at it all logically but it was about a week after the scan it really hit me what had happened and I really hit a low point. I really hope that doesn't happen to you and you are able to remain positive and logical. However, my advice is don't try to react in any particular way or how you think you should and please don't try to please others. Just take your time. I really hope it all works out for you soon. hugs.

Impatiently thanks for taking the time to reply. Today I started very heavy bleeding with clots so I guess this is it. It's going on so long I feel awful now, I just want a negative test so I can forget this has ever happened.
