Erythromycin after miscarriage

Hi everyone, this is my first ever post so please excuse any of my unwitting faux pas! Firstly, just want to say thank you to every one who has ever posted their experiences and advice; I have found great comfort in these forums and it takes a lot of courage to share your story. Secondly, if you are reading this post it is more than likely you have been affected by miscarriage in some way, and for that, my heart goes out to you. This was my first pregnancy. At 12 weeks I went for my scan, to be told that the baby had died at 8 weeks and 5 days. My husband and I are absolutely devastated; we had no idea, I had not experienced any pain or bleeding. My questions are related to the fact that over 6 weeks on from having medical management at the hospital by pessary, I am still bleeding. After coming home from the hospital my bleeding was quite light and darkish red/brown. I felt no cause for concern, as I was in no pain or discomfort. At 3 weeks after the miscarriage I visited my GP and was told by a locum doctor that my body was probably just taking it's time, and I should come back in a week if I was still bleeding. No blood tests or swabs were taken. The following weekend I did a 5k run/walk for charity, that included some muddy obstacles. As I have felt physically fine for some time now I did not see this being a problem and took part in the race. I felt great after doing it; the excercise and experience really took my mind off things and I felt happy again for the first time since the miscarriage. The following day at around 8pm I started bleeding much more heavily, and started passing clots. The bleeding was so heavy that we phoned for an ambulance and I was taken to A&E. With it being a Sunday night there was no Gynaecology doctor available, I had my blood taken, and pressure tested; the doctor informed me these were fine. I also had my urine tested again, which showed a negative pregnancy result. I was told to go home, and visit my doctor in a week if I was still bleeding. On Monday of this week nearly 6 weeks after the procedure, and still bleeding I went back to my doctors. I was seen by a different doctor who was so helpful and understanding; she seemed to think that I may have an infection as my temperature was slightly high, and after taking 3 vaginal swabs she said that there appeared to be some discharge (apologies for too much info). The doctor prescribed me with Erythromycin and asked me to call back after the course was finished if the bleeding had not stopped. I left the surgery, and she called me within 5 minutes to say that she had checked my blood results and that the pregnancy hormone level was 57. She then asked me to come back in so she could check my bloods. The level is now 26. I have been lucky enough to not have any real pain or discomfort during the last 6 weeks (miscarriage aside). I now have to wait for an appointment with the hospital for an ultrasound to check if there is any pregnancy left. Really I would just like advice from anyone who has had a similar experience; I am terrified that I will need to still have a scrape after going through the trauma of having the pessary and bleeding like I have for 6 weeks. The fact that the hormone seems to be going down makes me feel slightly better, but I am still so concerned and fed up, it seems to be never ending. The erythromycin is also giving me terrible heartburn, which is apparently normal? The bleeding seems to have got heavier in the last couple of days during the course of the antibiotics and I wonder if this is a good or a bad sign? Any advice would be greatly appreciated; I have called the ward that looked after me during my miscarriage and they have told me that I will need to wait for my ultrasound. Sorry for the rambling post, I just feel like I am doing my best to stay positive, but with no clear end in sight it is becoming impossible. Thanks xxx
