I am between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant with a second child. I have had no symptoms so far which is different from number one. Today I had mild abdo pain and went to the toilet where I discovered bright red blood, for a couple of hours after this some.light browny red blood but nothing.heavy. I have mild cramping feelings in my lower back and abdomen but the bleeding seems to have stopped. Does this sound like a miscarriage? Would the bleeding have stopped like that? feeling confused and worried.

Flowers sympathy to you, it's a horrible situation to be in.

You could be miscarrying but equally you might just be have a bleed, some women do get them sometimes and everything is okay. Do you have an EPU you can self refer to? They will scan you (although there won't be much to see at this stage anyway) and test your blood levels to see if they are increasing as expected. Alternatively you can 'watch and wait' at home, as there isn't anything they can do really to stop a miscarriage, if that is what happening.

Best wishes to you.

Hello slightly - sorry that you are feeling so worried. I have had bright red bleeding which stopped in three of my four pregnancies. Only one resulted in a miscarriage and the one with the worst bleeding . . . is now a lively three year old driving me mad! It is very confusing and worrying, could you get a referral for an early scan? Obviously there is no way to know the outcome as this point but please don't give up hope. I will have my fingers crossed for you.

It could be implantation bleeding. I had the same at about the same time with my DD. I was terrified it was a mc. She's 10 months now. There's not anything you can do except rest up and wait and see. If you're worried go to A&E. Wishing you all the best for your pregnancy ThanksThanksThanks for you.

Fingers crossed for you. Can you ring your EPU or midwife and ask for their advice? In my case I had the tiniest bit of blood and following that, midwives referred me to EPU for an early scan which unfortunately picked up a MMC, but I know plenty of people who have had lots of early bleeding and gone on to have successful pregnancies. That was following my first child and I've since gone on to have another successful pregnancy. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you everyone for your support. I rang the on call doctor just now as i am worrying and she managed to get me an appointment at epu at 10.30 so we will see.

How did you get on? Thinking of you x

slightlyconfused85 · 27/09/2014 06:45

Hello tranquility thank you so much for thinking of me. I went to epu and the scan showed no sac in the womb but I still tested pregnant. My blood hormone levels were very low so they said the bleed I had was likely the start of a miscarriage and probably more bleeding to come. Sure enough this morning I have started bleeding. I had a feeling but still disappointed. At least it has happened early.
