Help! The pain is incredible!

I'm currently having a mc. Should be 10wks but baby stopped developing at 6. I think I've passed the embryo & sac (looked like a small kidney bean with a string attached)...this happened on weds but the pain is still unbearable. I thought it would have eased off by now. I've tried codrydamol & tramadol & nothing is touching it...I'm walking around like I'm in labour or rocking back & forth like a crazy person. I've been vomiting where the pain has got so intense. Is this normal & what can I do? Most posts I've read seem to suggest the pain should get easier once the sac has gone or that a loss so early shouldn't be so bad. This is like the worst period X1000 :'(

Dear Carleyjayne,
I am so sorry you are going through this. Have you seen a health care professional since you passed the sac and had an examination? It is possible that you have retained some of the products of conception (sorry, I know that is a really clinical expression but it describes it effectively) and if that is the case you are at risk of infection. You need to be seen by a healthcare professional today. If you have a local early pregnancy assessment centre that is open at this time I would suggest you go there. If not then either ask for an emergency (tonight) appointment with your GP or go to your local A&E. Take care xx

I am still bleeding...which started a week ago. But I understand that's normal. When the mmc was confirmed the EPU just told me to wait it out & take a pg test 2wks after I started bleeding & if it came back positive I need to go back. That's it, no painkillers or advice. After I passed the sac I decided to go back to work as I thought the worst was over...big mistake, I got sent home as I was cramping badly & thought I was going to pass out. I'm hoping I just have a really low pain threshold rather than there being anything wrong. But it's getting worse rather than better which is why I'm a bit confused X

The pain has eased over the last couple of hours...fingers crossed it continues! Right now though my stomach muscles feel like I've done 1000 sit ups!! Lol. my fingers are also crossed for a good nights sleep. Hopefully the worst is over, otherwise I'll take a trip to the docs. Thanks for the advice X

How are you now?

Treaclepie19 · 14/09/2014 21:53

Gosh, i am sending you big hugs.
If the pain does get worse again just go to a&e.
I went twice, the experience is scary enough without more on top of it.

Hi OP. Was your miscarriage medically managed by any chance as you sound a lot like me after my medical management. The pain did stop for me after I passed the sac though (6 days after the medical management). Although I did pass another small piece of tissue six days after the sac came out. Maybe you have a bigger piece of retained tissue so your body is contracting to try and get it out. I think you should call the ward that treated you.

I second the advice, definitely go to A&E
That's what the EPAC midwife told me I should do today if the pain was unbearable.

Was also told to avoid ibruprofen as it makes the bleeding heavier

I am so sorry you are in so much pain. Hope you aren't reading this and have sort medical attention instead.

EvaHopeful · 15/09/2014 18:22

I had a scan today at the EPAC and after having it confirmed as inevitable I'm not sure what to do next. It's moving down but not sure how long it takes. Work have told me not to come in until I am fit. I'm very grateful for that. However right no I am in limbo and feeling stir crazy. I opted to let things pass naturally but didn't truly appreciate what that meant.

Sorry, I sound crazy. Maybe it still hasn't hit home. Only had the appointment this afternoon after an awful weekend watching the bleeding get heavier and heavier. On Friday baby was fine with heart beat and light pink bleeding by Saturday early evening it was red and cramping pain then Sunday really hyper cramps and clots in the blood and now wearing pads. Like I'm on my period - so wasn't surprised when scan confirmed "no pregnancy" in their words.

OH is surprising cheery talking about nature taking its course and all that. It almost feels like he is relieved. Not much comfort if any which makes me feel I had to show the stiff upper lip as well. Just work and my mum have been really good. Really surprised how "happy" OH is behaving, you wouldn't think there was a lose of any kind.

EvaHopeful · 15/09/2014 18:24

Sorry, didn't realise I would dump so much text like that. I really don't know how to feel but I want to cry my heart out, wake up and everything is already "done" for want of a better word

Update: ended up in a&e on sat...just couldn't take it anymore. The paramedics & a&e were brilliant...My bp & oxygen lvls were low & after initial treatment of entonox & oxygen I was transferred to gynae. Waited for 2hrs to be seen in sheer agony without pain relief & eventually had an internal exam. the doctor basically told me that my agony was down to 2 things. 1) pressure...my cervix wasn't dilated so everything was pushing down with nowhere to go & 2) I have cysts on my myometrium & a retroflexed womb apparently. Fabulous. I was treated very perfunctorily...no explanation (had to google it when I got home) given a painkilling suppository after repeatedly telling her that her suggestion to take ibuprofen was bordering on silly & sent home "to get on with it". Thankfully, I've had a full 24hrs without anywhere near the same level of pain so fingers crossed I'm over the worst! X

Omg your treatment sounds awful. I had medical management on Saturday and was given pethadine! Are you on antibiotics? If not, go and see your GP

Treaclepie19 · 15/09/2014 21:32

So sorry to hear that :( I had similar treatment.

Was never given the option of natural of medical. Just told to see how things went and had a scan planned for Wednesday (this was on the saturday). By the scan all was passed. I went back to a&e on the Monday as I was in intense pain. They gave me co-codamol and sent me home :/

It just shows you how insensitive they can be...I knew it was coming so kind of got my head round the whole thing but the physical pain was just something I wasn't remotely prepared for! Excuse the grossness but I was literally gushing last night with clots the size of fists & I've had zero pain & zero blood since so I think I'm done now thankfully & I can try & get my life back...wish you all happy futures with plenty of beautiful babies to come! X

Thanks for creating this thread, just reading the posts has helped get my head in the right place.

I am still waiting for things to pass naturally on my side.

My mum came down and spent a night and day and my sisters will be down this weekend. Hoping that I will be able to go back into the office on Monday, being sat at home is making me a little too stir crazy.

let me echo your sentiments: wishing you a happy future with plenty of beautiful babies to come.
