Missed miscarriage 12 weeks

Hello all I'm new on here and wonder if I could have some advice.

I was due to be 12 weeks pregnant on Monday just gone, but the day before I started bleeding heavily with severe cramps. I went to hospital to have a scan on Wednesday (took a long time to get an appt) they did an internal scan and said that the baby only measured 4mm which would equate to 5 weeks pregnant when I should be 12.

I have to go back next week for another scan just to be certain, but they've said unless my dates are wrong this is a miscarriage. I know my dates are 100% right as I've never been late before.

My question is about work, I don't feel I can go in at the moment as I know this is a miscarriage, will the doctor sign me off or say it has to be confirmed before he can do that?

Thank you (ps this was to be our first baby)

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had a mmc in October 2011.
The doctor will sign you off whilst you await further scans/tests. You can ask that they don't put miscarriage as the reason if you don't want work to know.
Take care of yourself and rest plenty.

Jaynie I am SO sorry to hear you news, totally devastating and shocking.
I am not sure re. GP, could you make an appointment and explain that you feel traumatised and can't work a the moment?

Thank you both, I don't mind work knowing the reason. I'm just in floods of tears one minute then numb the next I'm definitely not in the right frame of mind to be working.
