miscarriage - what do i do next??

i was about 12 weeks pg by my dates, 9 by my scan dates, so i knew something was wrong.

Had a huge gush of blood last night. then passed tiny clots, smal amount of bleeding through the night.

How long will i bleed, and how heavy should it be? my last mc was a misse, so i had a d&c. I'd prefer to let it happen as naturally as poss this time, as had loads of problems last time, ie giant clots for a month from the pessaries, until i had a d&c!! made me really ill.

and what do i do next??

oh mia, I'm so sorry to hear this, I really am.

I would get a doctor's appointment this morning - they probably can't do much other than send you for a scan to make sure that it is a full miscarriage, but they will need to do this, or check your blood.

In terms of the bleeding, what the EPU said to me when I miscarried, was that you should start worrying if you fill a pad every half hour.

Other than that, look after yourself and I'll be thinking of you.

thanks 2 cats. do you think it would be ok for me to leave it a few days first? Could i go straight to the hosp? my doctors are useless tbh

Bleeding is not heavier than a normal period. i thought it should be really heavy!! im glad to hear its not!! Ive only had mild cramps also, nothing too horrible

HI Mia, so sorry to hear your news. I too had a missed miscaqrriage with d&C and then a natural miscarriage which I didn't need to have a d&C for. You should call your doctor/midwife or eaqrly pregnancy unit at the hospital. They will probably want to do a scan to check that it is defintely a miscarriage If it is a miscarriage they will want to check it is complete maybe by second scan week or so later, if it is no d&c should be needed. I'd call them asap so you can find out for sure.

mia-I'm so sorry to hear your news too. I echo what twocats said-ring your GP this morning and they will arrange a scan. This is what I did when I started bleeding on the BH I went to the Drs on the Tuesday and had a scan on the Wednesday. As I was already bleeding I let it carry on naturally. 3 weeks later a scan showed I had passed everything. Thinking of you.

Hi Mia, Very sorry to hear this, i had a missed misscarrage 2 weeks ago, i would have also been 12 weeks yesterday. I had a d&c done as this suited me but i have no advice from experince, i would agree with 2cats, a scan can just make sure that its all happening correctly.

Mia, so sorry you have miscarried

I had one naturally last year and the bleeding continued for about 5 days I think, maybe a week. The first 3/4 days were like a heavy period with lots of tissue. Then a couple of days light.

I echo what those below have advised about arranging a scan for a week or two afterwards, to check it has all come out. Also, if you start to feel feverish and fluey, go to A&E immediately as it could indicate an infection, which can happen if anything is left inside.

Hi mia84, I had a miscarriage last wednesday and I'm still bleeding all be it very light now.
You really do need to go to your gp's tho and then a scan, it really is important.

I do hope you're ok and managing thru this difficult time. xxx

thank you everyone! I'm in work at the moment - and i work with my mother who doesnt know i was pregnant! i didnt want to worry her again in case this happened. i think i will wait a few days then ring the midwife who caan get me a scan. will that be ok? really cant face the hospital at the moment.

I am honestly fine though. i feel sorry for myself, then think of the people who have had 8 miscarriages! i am only 22. ive got plenty of time!

the bleeding is not heavy, and should i be having worse cramps?? they were like period pains yest, but nothing today!

Mia, it's a bummer isn't it. My experience of miscarriage is(unfortunately I've had a fair few) is that the longer the preg has gone on the heavier the bleeding. My first one was at about 11 weeks, the baby had dies at 6 weeks but placenta and stuuf had kept on growing. I had a couple of weeks of period type bleeding and thought it was over as it all stopped, Then I had the actual miscarriage out of the blue a few days later. It was very painful and very heavy indeed. But I had no further complications.

The doctor said to me that the bleeding should be over in 2 weeks. This isn't necessarily the case and if you bleed longer than this but feel well in yourself there is nothing to be worried about. If you feel feverish and unwell and are bleeding heavily for a long time go and see your gp straight away or phone the epac straight away. Best of luck for the future

mia i am so sorry to hear your news , i also m/c last week with my 8th m/c so really do understand wot you are going through. i also didnt tell anybody (except best friend and a close work friend,as i think it is important to have someone to talk to at all times)usually we tell everyone but we never get "oh we're so pleased for you ' we always get ' o right fingers crossed ' this time we wanted to wait and were so sure his was our time that we were going to get our first clear scan.but on going wrong have told my mum and afew others as you need people to understand your bad days,and im sure your mum would really want to be there for you(if you r close) anyway you really should speak to someone today even if you cant face it, you need to make a opp for a few days time,i always go asap as i just need to get everything out of me and start with the emotional part of the journey.i havent had a d&c this time but find every time i go to the toilet and have to see all the blood and stuff it just starts emotions flooding again,but this time everything had pretty much started to clear out at my 7wk scan so a d&c wasnt needed,but have had about 5 d&c's and prefer that route.i have a fantastic nurse at my epc clinic and could phone her at any point,just try and speak to someone on the phone if you cant face goin, and get their medical advice it might make you feel a little better.they cant make you go today if your not ready !they will just advise you . im sorry my message goes on i am new to this and need to learn not to write long stories but always have lots to say .i hope at least one thing i have said has helped you and will keep on reading your thread to see how you r doin .take care !

ITs my birthday in 2 weeks time! and i was in hosp having a D&C for my 21st last year!! Oh god, the pain is yet to come then!

mia I had my first actual mc on my birthday. It felt quite surreal and I got very drunk.
Your time will come. Look after yourself physically and emotionally.

Sorry for your loss Mia84.

I had a mc about 9 weeks in july i bleed lightly only tiny clots for about 3 weeks i also had no pain. then three weeks later i had a period.

i did not have d & C my doctor and the early pregnancy clinic were happy for me to it natrually.

hiya lizzies mum, thank you, i'm really dreading the pain!! im such a baby! but thats good to hear you had little, and it was over quickly!! Hopefully i wont have too much either!

hi mia ,my 1st m/c happened at xmas and it is harder when it happens on a date that is celebrated ,but in time it fades slightly and yes you will think about it on that date but you will still be able to smile and enjoy your day.and i have had no pain during any of m/c, i expect i have been very lucky as i no thats not always the case but a slight backache and maybe a slight belly ache has been all i experienced.good luck

Hi Mia- I just wanted to let you know i was thinking about you and so very sorry.

I have had similar experiences to the other ladies- my last mc was on the 1/ June- I should have been 10 weeks- showed 6. It was a blighted ovum so I opted for a natural mc this time and although-and this isn't the same for everyone- it was painful, it was like very exaggerated period pains. I bled in total for 10 days- the middle 3-4 were very heavy and i passed the sac etc at that point- then the pain eased off. I was glad i had chosen this route because i felt some resolution at the end- with my other 2 mc i had felt empty later - like nothing had happened to me - I can't explain it properly but i hope i have helped and that you get the care you need. xx

mia - sorry to hear of yet another of us once due in march has fallen by the wayside .

As you may remember I had a m/c in july at 6-7 weeks. I bled for about a week and it wasn't any more than a period.

Have you got to the doctors ? I would get to your gp (or EPU if they'll see you without a referal) as soon as you can so you can get checked.

I had a MC in June, although I waited three weeks before I had a D&C the bleeding wasn't any heavier than a period and I didn't get that much pain just light cramps. I think it is easier if you have someone to talk it through it took me awhile to get my head back together. The bleeding can go on for a while and as long as there is no sign of infection the drs don't seem to worry

Heya everyone,

Bleeding was qute bad last night, so went to A&E where they examined me. went for a scan today, and doctor going to ring me tonight to tell me if d&c is tomorrow or fri!!

So hopefully i'll be sorted soon!! thank you everyone, im a stubborn mule at times!

Sorry for your loss-Thinking of you-
Hope everything went ok with with the D&C. I had a m/c last month too, and opted not to have a D&C as most had happened naturally already. It was much more graphic though, so that wasn't pleasant have had two m/c before that too, i think there are pros and cons to both methods-D&C and natural.

I hope when you feel up to it you can get some tests- most are simple blood tests and they can rule out alot of reasons for m/c. You do have plenty of time though, i wasn't ready to think about children till 28
