What can they do about recurrent missed miscarriage?

My friend is almost 40 and has just had two missed miscarriages.
1st - mc'd at 8 weeks - just a yolk sac
2nd - found at 13 week scan - just a yolk sac.
Her GP won't investigate until she's had 3 miscarriages but we'd be really grateful if anyone can shed any light on what sort of tests etc they can do and if anyone has had experience of this.

Thanks loads

Lesley Regan's book 'Miscarriage' has a lot of very helpful info.

Friend told me (as having similar experiences)to read the Lesley Regan book and also to get a private initial appt with obstetrician if could afford it as then could possibly get further test on NHS. Fingers crossed that's right as I'm going to my doctor to discuss it on Wednesday

hi, i have had 8 miscarriages last one being this wk,i have been going to st.marys in paddington for the last 3years and 5 m/c .on my first few visits i had a scan to make sure all was well and numerous blood test ,testing for all the more obvious reasons of m/c. my husband and i were tested for our chromo compatibility even though we have had a 14 yr old daughter together . the only conclusion they could find for me was that my blood thickens to fast so i now take 150mg of asprin when pregnant but unfortunately still no success leaving us all very confused,i even tried accupunture this time ,which is supposed to help with blood flow ( u r supposed 2 start it b 4 fallin preg). I HOPE SOME OF THIS MAY B OF SOME USE 2 U ,BUT AM HOPING MORE THAT YOUR FRIEND WILL GO ON TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL PREGNANCY NXT TIME.

I had two miscarriages before having my DD in December and before i got pregnant with DD i was told in no uncertain terms that until you have three miscarriages you cant get any tests done at all. When i found out i was pregnant again after the second miscarriage i was absolutely terrified and hassled the doctor to refer me to Early Pregnancy Unit, i was also put on a small dose of aspirin as there is a history of blood clotting in my family. i had 3 scans before 12 weeks and my Hormone levels were regularly checked. thankfully all was well on the third time. my heart goes out to your friend. Can only suggest she hassles doctor for help.

Hi Morningnewspaper
I had a good experience at my doctors today. He was really supportive and said that he felt that it was best for me to have an appt with an obstetrician who specialised in recurrent m/c (private appt as I have had two not the three that NHS requires). He was 100% behind me and made me feel really good about my decision, he was also very supportive about the emotional side of it all.
I know I'm at the start of a long road of tests, but at least I've got my foot on that (rather expensive) road.
I'm hoping to get some sense of closure regarding my 2nd m/c and also be able to make an informed decision whether to try again, by seeing this specialist. Fingers crossed
Jossie

Hi Jossie - thanks for coming back on how you got on. I am so glad that your doctor was so supportive - it's a massive thing and it really helps I'm sure. All the very best of luck and please keep in touch. Fingers crossed and thank goodness you don't have to do any more waiting to get on rung no. 1 of the ladder.

hi morningnewspaper< thanks for your thread ! i received my oppointment from st .marys 24th october it seems a life time away ,wot do u do wait and go to be given same advise (nothing else they can do ) or go and hope that maybe there may be something else they can do that they havent already ,which if so why havent they !either way thats quite a while to wait if want to try again. am feeling very angry and yet really sad today ,arguing with husband over the way am coping with things,as he says im not talking and being to hard again .feel like im really lonely as no one except my best friend is understanding the pain im feeling .never mind like i always say (theres people out there alot worst off than me)sorry for goin on .take care !

Jossie · 02/09/2006 20:41

Candy girl I feel for you, it must be so hard as the treatment you were given last time must have given you so much hope.
Keep looking forward towards October, I know that's easy for me to say.
My thoughts and best wishes are with you

thanks josie! sorry to read about your 2 m/c but am pleased your going to get help ,its mad that you have to go through 3m/c before they put you on the list to get help on the nhs isnt it ,u read my thread so u no my story i have taken the asprin now for the last 4/5 preg and they cant seem to find anything else to help, but i was told about accupunture by a friend who done numerous amounts of ivf then gave it one more go using this guy she found who specialises in accupunture on people doing ivf and people who suffer recurrant m/c its all to do with the blood flow apparently, anyway she is now 22wks preg (great!)i went last time but i was already preg ,you should start before you get preg apparently .its just another avenue that made me feel abit more like i was trying everything i could .take care !
