bright red AF style bleeding at 8 weeks - advice pls!

So - should be 8 weeks pg. Started bleeding today - like early AF, so bright red and with intent but not seriously heavy. MW said to phone her tomo to see if it's stopped and go from there. I doubt it will tbh. What happens next?

Also, I lost a baby at about 5 wks in Sept (faint line on test, which disappeared and got AF), then conceived this one in Oct and this one's going at 8 weeks. Could it just be stress? Is it just life and we just keep trying?

I don't have much advice as although I've had two MC's both mine were MMC's so I don't have any experience of a natural miscarriage so don't know whether or not all hope is lost. However I didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

From what I've gathered from this forum I think if it is an MC then as it will have already commenced I think it's the norm to let nature take it's course. Other threads describe the experience in more detail but because you are further along I think if it is an MC it will be more than feeling like a heavy period.

In relation to the cause it's highly unlikely to be stress. If this does become n MC then because the odds are still in your favour that another pg would be problem free and that you've just been unlucky then you wouldn't be offered any tests etc. However if you have a third then they would start testing. (I don't know what this means in practice).

Hopefully the bleeding will stop and everything is fine and this is just a scare.

I have had a mmc and a 7 wk mc. With both the bleeding began very gradually with brown blood.
I am now 13 wks & at 5+3 had a threatened mc with sudden bright red blood - reasonably heavy but didn't last long. A scan showed all fine & all has been OK since.

So really it's hard to know what it means but if it continues or you're worried try and get seen at your nearest epu.

Thanks for the replies :). Still bleeding this morning, so over 12 hours now. Bright red blood, no brown or dark red. Not feeling very hopeful!

bronya, do you have bad cramps and are you passing clots?

bronya ask the MW or your GP to refer you to the early pregnancy clinic, they can normally fax a referral through so you can be seen today. You need a scan to tell you what is going on. It's possible to bleed quite heavily and for it all to be ok (from a subchorionic haematoma for example) but it can also be the start of a miscarriage. It's ok in about 50 % of cases. Cramps and clots would both be bad signs.
At 8 weeks if baby is ok you should see a strong heartbeat, so a scan should be able to tell you either way. If you see baby the right size and a decent HB at 8 weeks your MC risk drops to 3%

Scan tomorrow morning. No clots, but it's progressing like AF would so I'm not expecting good news tomorrow. It will be good to know though, and I believe I can then get some tablets to speed it all up?

At least you'll know tomorrow then. The fearing the worst but not actually knowing whether to give up all hope is awful. Someone said time during a threatened miscarriage goes in dog years, each day feels like seven. I think that's spot on!
In theory if it's bad news you have a choice of expectant ( just letting nature take it's course) medical (tablets - actually pessaries in the vagina) or surgical management. IME if you are already bleeding they are reluctant to book for surgery and the likelihood would be you'd pass the sac before you could get a slot anyway. If the worst happens and it is a m/c, then you probably won't be offered tests for an underlying reason as that only happens if you have (god forbid) a 3rd one.

Scan this morning showed a complete miscarriage. I am sad, but it was what I was expecting, and I am relieved that it's all gone easily. We will just return to TTC in due course!
