Falling (or not) HCG levels

I found out I was pregnant last Thursday (massive shock as dd who is 7 months was a DE pregnancy). Unfortunately the levels only rose from 130 to 174 in 4 days, so I went back to my clinic for a repeat test today (4 days later) to check they were falling.

They have fallen, but only to 171. I have been advised to self-refer to my EPU to confirm the pregnancy is not ectopic, and I have left them a message. I started bleeding yesterday and have passed at least one grey tissuey clot (apologies for tmi) and have no pain.

Does anyone have any experience of levels starting to drop at a reasonable rate? TBH I am just about ok with the m/c, and just want the whole thing over with, but the thought of it being ectopic is just about to push me over the edge..

I'm not too bad - this will be m/c number 4, but I'm so grateful to have dd, that it sweetens the pill. I just really hope it isn't ectopic so I can get the whole thing over with.

Hope its good news on Monday - I'm currently in the active monitoring stage of an ectopic, so can empathise. I suppose that in between the 174 and 171 your HCG might have carried on rising, then started falling at a steady rate - will they do more bloods on Monday do you think? One thing I've learnt over this last week is that 50% of ectopics are self-resolving, and low HCG levels mean this is more likely, so even if it is ectopic it looks likely to sort itself out. Means less medical intervention, even if the end result is still not what you wanted.

The midwife said the plan would be to monitor via blood tests. She wants to do a scan on Monday, to check for fluid which would indicate an ectopic (I think that's what she said), but hopefully they'll do the blood test on Monday too.

Interesting point about rising, then dropping. I hadn't thought about that point at all - I was on cyclogest until Monday, so my progesterone levels may not have fallen at a normal rate. Less medical intervention is definitely the way forward!

I'm doing OK today, thanks - my HCG levels have been very low throughout and started spotting today, so hoping things have sorted themselves out. This comes after a MMC in August so a pretty crappy year... sorry you've had to go through this four times, hope 2014 brings us both some good luck xx

remember I am sorry for your loss. I've had 4 MC and it is so sad that you do start to get used to it. Did you determine a cause for your losses prior to having DD? There's a lot of support available on the recurrent miscarriage thread if you want some company.

Mymother - that is really crappy - I had 2 in a year and drank a lot of champagne that New year in an attempt to see the back of it..

Baking - I may well pop in! I shamelessly lurk on the prednisone thread as the most likely causes seem to be my high nk cells. To have dd, I was on prednisone, aspirin, clexane and intralipids. As 2 of my m/cs were at 9 weeks, we also had pgd to rule out any chromosomal issues with DH. Even then, dd was twins, but we sadly lost one. In all, a bit of a marathon, but worth it in the end.. So sorry to hear about your 4 too. Did they give you any ideas as to causes?

I'm on the pred thread too. Had high NK cells diagnosed after MC4 and currently 15 weeks pregnant having had pred, clexane and progesterone throughout first trimester. Good to hear that you got there with your DD.

So you are! Once we get over this we plan on seeing if we will be lucky enough for another, so will come and join you! I've been seeing Mr S for years and he delivered dd, and I think quite a few people on that thread see him too..

Many congratulations! I've got everything crossed for you. I don't know about you, but it was a weird feeling being drug-free in the second trimester...

Took us 7 years to have dd, and at times I can't believe we finally got there...
