Missed miscarriage

Diagnosed today. Operation tomorrow. My EPU have been lovely and I'm feeling relatively positive about what's happening. Has anyone had the op? My appointment's 12:30, how long should it take? How long will I feel woozy for? I've never had a general anaesthetic before. What do I need to take with me?

I didn't have the op, but wanted to say I'm sorry you are suffering a MMC. They are quite a shock. Mine was at 11 weeks, but I let it happen naturally. It was the best option for me at the time.
I hope someone else can give you some useful advice regarding the op!

Mine was 8am and I was home by 11am, feeling OK. Was only woozy for about 30 minutes, although guidance says don't be alone, or drive for 24 hours. Take a dressing gown and slippers, and a book, as there was a certain amount of sitting about and waiting.

You might get a bit of a hormonal crash a couple of days later, all normal, and there will be bleeding for a few days - mine was light. Allow yourself to feel whatever you need to and take your time with emotions.

I had the op a few years ago and it was absolutely fine. Got to the hosp, got into a gown and saw the doc and whatnot. There was waiting for a bit but not too long and DP sat with me. Then I was wheeled into theatre. Everyone was absolutely lovely and kind. I did have a little cry.

They put you under quite quickly then next thing you know you are awake. I had some cramps subsiding as I woke but nothing awful. I felt ok after, but woozy for a bit. You can't drive!

You bleed after so you need to wear pads, not tampons. It's a bit like a period but I had darker blood. The hospital rang me a day or two later to check I was ok. The hospital will tell you in advance how long you should bleed for (sorry, can't remember).

You will be fine. Get a nice dinner and glass of wine lined up for when you get home then go to bed xx

So sorry, it was a year ago tmrw that I found about my mmc and then had op the following week. I got there about 1pm and had the op about 3 think I must have been out of my room for an hour or so and was then let home about 6/7. I then spent the weekend in my pjs and didn't go out. We were then at my parents for Xmas so could relax. I don't have any children so could just focus on myself. I bled for a couple of weeks and took painkillers for a few days but it just felt like bad period pains nothing too bad. If you have any other questions just ask. It's such a horrible time but just give yourselves time to grieve and cry, it will never go away but it will get easier xx

Sorry you are going through this. The actual operation doesn't take very long at all. You might find yourself waiting around for a while, before you have it though. Take some really comfy clothes with you, and some night clothes, wash bag set just incase you have to stay in. And some old knickers for if you do have any bleeding afterwards. Also something to keep you occupied like a book or some magazines.

You will probably feel woozy for a couple of days afterwards but nothing too bad, you will need to rest. You might find it hits you very hard mentally after the ERPC I found it did because I was just focusing on getting the operation done and over with I didn't think too much about why I was having it.

Physically I had hardly any bleeding or pain afterwards. The first time I had a wee it hurt and a little bit of stomach ache put only needed one lot of painkillers. I was kept in overnight but was already ill when I went in with a high temperature of unknown cause. I was terrified it would stop them doing it. I'd already had a natural miscarriage and did not want to go through that again.

I'm sorry you've had a MMC.

I've had 2 and had the op both times. I agree with the earlier posts that there's nothing to worry about the procedure - it's not long before you're ready for your tea and toast. The only thing I wanted to add was that after the first one I had a minor infection which I'm pretty sure was caused by me overdoing it (heavy digging) because I had a bit of "well if I'm not pg I can do anything" attitude. So I would recommend not doing anything physically strenuous for a few days. (I think this was probably recommended to me at the time but with all that was happening passed me by).

In relation to bleeding the standard is 7-10 days following the op but it seems to vary enormously from person to person.

I'm back home now. Still feeling positive. Not much bleeding yet and not enough pain for pain killers. I was really lucky as I was the first to go in and everyone was fab. Took a while to get a line though so my hand is a bit sore.

Glad you're feeling ok OP. Get plenty of rest and look after yourself.

Hi I had the op last month, only bled from a day or 2 and was very light. Had bought co-codamol from pharmacy in preparation but pain wasn't too bad. The thing I found hardest was the tiredness- I was exhausted for a few days after. I have also had cold after cold since then, apparently anaesthetic knocks your immune system so maybe get some vitamins. Physically I was fine but emotionally it was very hard so book people in to take care of you! It felt a relief to finally be home and start moving forward

By the time it was confirmed yesterday I just wanted to know so we could start moving on. Feel really tired at the moment. And my arm aches where the line went wrong!
