Silent miscarriage 2nd trimester any Nurses or advice.

Am still in shock re scan today (I'm 17 wks) which shows baby died around 14.5 wks. I have had no bleeding and still suffering with awful sickness/nausea etc.
Have been told by hospital to have an MMC. It just seems like a harrowing process. Can you still have a surgical procedure at this stage or would this harm the baby's little body. I apologise if this sounds really silly to ask but I havn't a clue.

scoop I am so sorry your baby has died, it must have been a massive shock. I've only had first trimester miscarriage but everyone I've heard of on here with later losses seems to have had either naturally gone into labour or had medical management. The miscarriage association leaflet about second trimester miscarriage does not mention ERPC. I did a google and American sites talk about D+E (dilation and evacuation) under general anaesthetic, for later losses. I guess you need to ask the hospital if you have options at this point.

Hopefully someone will be along with the knowledge to answer your question, but the cut off for surgical management seems to be about 14 weeks or less, and I assume it's to do with the size of the baby and how far they can physically dilate your cervix without you going through the natural process of labour to open it up.
I'm sure you could phone the hospital back tomorrow and ask more questions, obviously you would have been in no state at the time to think coherently about your options.

I'm so sorry for your loss
I had the same experience in March this year. I was 18 weeks but baby passed around 14 weeks too.
I had no symptoms at all either and was purely instinctual that I insisted doctor check heart beat which got me sent to EPU.
I was induced and delivered bub in hospital. I was sobbing when they told me I would have to deliver as I was so scared. I found out I am so much stronger than I ever anticipated.
There isn't much information given from the hospital about what happens before. Most was given to us when I went in to have bub.
I wouldn't wish it on anyone or want to go through it again but what really helped us was getting to see our baby and we also got the option to bring her home with us for burial as they aren't considered a person at that stage (which was really hard).

Sorry for your loss. I had mmc at 16 weeks but baby died at 14 weeks, I have 2 children by c section so they wouldn't let me labour so I had an erpc
They can do it up to 15 weeks or so I was told,
