MC at 5 weeks - what happens next?

I'm new to putting up posts, but I had an MC on Saturday. I feel so sad & even though we'd only just got the positive test a few days before, I couldn't help but plan & get excited.
We went to A&E to get checked, had a negative test so definitely was a MC & I now have a obstetrician appt this week. Can anyone advise what to expect please? Will I have an internal scan or any procedure? I've had heavy bleeding since Sat but seems to have lessened now & a couple of nosebleeds (is that normal?).
Just don't know what to expect.
Have a 2 year old boy & finding it hard to be happy & play with him when feeling devastated inside, even though it was so early in pregnancy, but we had been trying for nearly a year.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Claiwat
So sorry about your loss. I also had an mc at 5 weeks just 2 weeks ago. I'd had positives for over a week, but they stopped getting darker after 3 days, so I knew it was destined to fail. We hadn't been trying long, but it followed a loss (at 11 weeks) in July, so still devastating.

As it is so early they may just do a transvaginal scan to check that there's nothing left behind, though if the bleeding stops on its own it usually means that it has completed. With such an early miscarriage it is very unlikely they'd need to perform any sort of procedure other than the scan, so don't worry.

I didn't suffer any nosebleeds. I haven't heard anyone else mention having them, so may be coincidental, but do mention to doc if they continue!

Thanks Ruggle for your message - I'm so sorry for your losses too, I think as soon as you see that positive result you can't help but start getting excited and thinking of due date etc, so its devastating however many weeks have passed.
Thank you for letting me know re the scan - the bleeding does seem to have virtually stopped, so I hope that it has completed. I will talk to the doc about the nosebleeds too.
I hope they can advise when we can think about trying again too, although I know emotionally I need to be ready which may be a while.

Often at a very early stage, the 'pregnancy' is just reabsorbed by the body and bleeding is minimal, or simply 'like a period'.

If you had no scan at A&E then you will probably have one at your appointment just to check what stage the mc is at. If the bleeding is still heavy you will probably be offered a D&C but otherwise nature will be allowed to just take its normal course.

Its very hard keeping the 'smile' on your face at times like this. Friends who have had an mc help enormously - other friends simply wont 'get' your sense of grief/emptiness. Dont get upset by their possibly dismissive attitude. Wait a couple of months and try again. Dont ever give up hope.
