When to TTC after an ERPC?

I had an ERPC yesterday after the twelve week scan found that the baby had passed away at around ten weeks. The hospital leaflet recommends waiting for "a couple" of cycles to TTC from a "physical" point of view, but doesn't explain why. Just wondering what other people's experiences were? I already have a 2yo and no previous history of miscarriages or complications. For various practical reasons we will have to stop TTCing for a year if we don't conceive in the next six months, so the thought of not TTCing for two or three months of that is heart-breaking Sad

It's normally recommended to wait for one AF from the point of view of dating a subsequent pregnancy. There is probably an argument that after an ERPC you may not have adequate uterine lining to support a pregnancy if you got pregnant immediately, and after a natural MC I have certainly had very heavy and clotty AF suggesting that material had been left behind (even though scan had shown MC complete) so I think there is something to be said for letting the body have one cycle to recover. I've never heard anyone suggest waiting longer than that if you feel emotionally ready to try again. I know of plenty of people who have got pregnant immediately without a period and been ok, but also a few who miscarried again and wondered if it was to do with body not being ready.
I'm v sorry for your loss, and I hope you feel up to trying again soon Flowers

I've had two ERPC's and both times started TTC after one AF. I hope all goes well for you next time.

Hi,
I also had an ERPC yesterday. Doc said to have one AF before ttc. I've been reading up and I think as soon as the two week is up (to stop bleeding and to prevent infection) and I've stopped bleeding, we will start to DTD when we feel up to it. Not necessarily ttc, but not preventing it either. I think if my body is ready, it's ready, so will leave it up to nature. I believe that they only tell you to wait for one AF is to make it easier for them to date a pregnancy, and because they think it will be good for you emotionally recover, but I feel ready.

There is no need to wait according to my obstetrician.
