Is this normal over 3 months after MC?

I had a MMC at the end of July at 12 weeks. My cycles have been relatively regular since then but I am finding my periods horrifically painful. I am on period number three now so feel that I have been quite patient and given it some time to get back to normal.

This time around it is also very heavy and I have had a lot of clotting (including one around the size of a ten pence piece yesterday and lots of stringy clots as well- sorry if TMI).

I am also spotting for days before my period and spotted for a few random days in the middle of this month.

I've had to stay home from work today and yesterday and I'm really worried about my sick record as I was off for two weeks when I had my miscarriage. I'm still struggling massively with dealing with the loss of our baby and I could really do without being in physical pain as well. Do you think I should be concerned?

I don't think you should be concerned but if it's bad enough for you to miss work I think you should speak to your GP. It may well be that your pregnancy has just changed the nature of your periods - at least for a time - and it's nothing to do with your MC as such e.g. my mum always had really irregular periods until she had me.

Hopefully your GP can reassure you - as you say you have enough to deal with with out this.

Just so you know, time off due to pregnancy-related issues (including miscarriage) should not be counted towards your "normal" sick record.

I have this information from a solicitor at my work who specializes in employment rights.

I think the one proviso is that your sick note needs to state miscarriage or pregnancy-related (not certain - I just asked if "miscarriage" was sufficient, and she said it was).

I'd see a doctor about this. I had a missed m/c at 11 weeks (13 years ago!) and my periods returned to normal pretty much straight away, so I'd say what you are experiencing is unusual. The spotting is a bit strange too. When I had mid-cycle spotting (well before the m/c) I was sent to have a hysteroscopy to investigate the cause.

Good luck OP.

I had a similar experience after both my 1st trimester MCs - my GP said this wasn't uncommon and things would settle in time, which they did.

However, a quick chat with your own GP would do no harm?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I've booked an appointment with the GP and will see what she says. I think I need to talk to her for peace of mind!
