Ended up with ERPC after all...

Hi everyone,
If it helps anyone with decision making at any point, I first posted last weekend as an 8 week scan had shown an empty sac:( I took the tablets and went home to wait. Unfortunately, nothing at all happened and I ended up in hospital on Wednesday for an ERPC as I couldn't take any more waiting. It was ok, and at least it's over with now:(. I' m not saying this is what would happen to everyone, but maybe it will help someone with what is an awful decision anyway. X I,m trying to decide how quickly to try to TTC now as I.m 34 and pretty worried Im running out of time :( if only I'd realised when I was younger how hard ttc would actually be!

I also found the ERPC much easier than expected and would opt fur that route next time.

I have found these boards so reassuring and supportive. I'm trying stait away as like you I do not take my fertility for granted. Good luck I hope you are successful soon.

Make sure you take very good care of yourself. I spent at least a month under a dark cloud just relaxing at home and trying to make sense of things.

You don't need to wait long start TTC if you feel ready. Both times (I've had two ERPC's) I've waited until I've had a AF as I wanted to know where I was and so be confident re dates if (fingers crossed) I fell pg again. But I don't think you even need to wait that long. And your fertility will currently be higher due to the pregnancy.

Don't worry too much about your age, best of luck with TTC again. Take pregnacare or similar so you don't get run down if you're TTC straight away.

Re the age thing - I am one of the 1% who repeat miscarry so have read all the stats: at 35 the average woman gets slightly less fertile (i.e. an extra month or so per try) BUT sporadic miscarriage only becomes a big, big risk after 40. So you have time! This advice was given to me by St Mary's, the UKs biggest miscarriage clinic. Sadly many GPs last read a book on this in med school (shocking considering 1 in 4 women miscarry at some point in their life) and fob women off with the age thing: if this is the case with yours, go in with facts and figures from the miscarriage association website: it makes me so angry when they make out women should quit/nothing can be done too early!

I'm with Squiz, you have plenty of time. Drs are too quick to blame your age. I know it can feel like your pain is being dismissed if people try to find positives, but you have got pregnant once, and when you are ready you can do it again. Give yourself a bit of time to recover physically and emotionally, then there is lots of support on the TTC after MC threads.
