Surgical management tomorrow

After two attempts at medical management at home my third scan shows that the baby and sac are still present. Can't believe I have even more to endure. I have surgical management booked in at my hospital tomorrow. Is there anyone out there who can put my mind at ease? What with hormones and sheer exhaustion from all that I've been through over last four weeks my courage is wading.....In hope that I'm maybe nearly at the end of this horrendous process called miscarriage. Sorry to hear that Luisa I know you were keen to avoid surgery. I haven't had an ERPC but in general people seem to find it the least traumatic option in terms of pain, post MC bleeding and just being able to draw a line under the whole horrid business. I really hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you.

Hi Luisa. I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a rough time. I found the ERPC ok. I thought it would be quite traumatic but the staff were very kind and obviously you're asleep for the actual procedure. To be honest when they said the theatre were ready for me, I practically ran there as I was so keen to get it over with by that point. As I'm sure you've found over the past few weeks, it's the emotional side that is so hard to deal with. Take time afterwards to recover and be kind to yourself. I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Hi luisa,

I am very scared of hospitals so it was a scary prospect for me. It ended up being fine and much better than expected. I went in, was given a vaginal pessary, taken to theatre, had a very tiny tube put in my hand, meds administered and then woke up! Very minimal bleeding following and almost no pain, just cramping.

If I can do you definitely can!

Good luck. I know you will be fine and this is nothing compared to what you have been through tomorrow. Just think that this time tomorrow it will be over.

I had one and I think it was the best option for me at the time. I was a bit apprehensive but it seemed like I fell asleep and then when I woke up it was all over. My bleeding afterwards was very minimum but its different for everybody. The main thing is to take care of yourself. Be gentle and know that whatever emotions you're going through, it's ok. Personally I planned a night of wine sushi blue cheese and chocolate and tears. Hugs to you and your partner (if you have one).

I have had medical management twice and ERPC once and I have to say if I was unfortunate enough to go through a miscarriage again I would definitely elect for ERPC. It was the least worst option if you know what I mean. Over quickly, no hemorrhaging all over my sofa, just an easier process to deal with all in all. I was most worried about the GA, but it was all fine.

I've had ERPC twice - I didn't hestitate to choose it the second time but understand that everyone's different.

For me the hardest part is that because I was in day surgery but being treated in the main theatre they can't always be sure how quickly you will be seen as emergencies etc will take priority. So both times it was a relief when they said how long I would need to wait. It's also a pain not being able to eat or drink but wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

I don't think you are under for long so it didn't take me that long after the procedure before I was tucking in to tea and toast and other than a bit tired felt like my normal self. Take it pretty easy for the next few days. After the first one I think I overdid it as I was overcompensating for no longer being pregnant and ended up with a mild infection and on antibiotics. The second time around I was more careful and didn't get any infection. I bled for about 10 days after - getting lighter as time went by.

Luisa I'm sorry you had had such a rough time, I've had erpc 3 times , very little pain and very little bleeding, I just felt relief that it was all over, good luck xx

I hope it went ok today Luisa. Sorry for your loss. As other MN's have said , I have experienced both medical management that went on and on and on and also ERPC. The ERPC was a much better option as brings the MC to an end and can then move on physically at least. Am currently experiencing an MC now and when I go to hosp on Friday will be requesting ERPC as it has taken them 7 days to give me a scan date.

Hello again! I survived and am tucked in my bed. Thanks again for your messages. They have so helped me. It was over quickly as you all said. I did create a bit of a drama in recovery ward though as despite feeling kinda ok after having my tea and cheese/pickle sarnie - in toilet my blood pressure went right down and blacked out. The nurses were amazing - so kind, patient and sensitive. They supported me medically with oxygen mask etc and regular checks and kept giving me cups of tea which I knew would calm me down. Oh and muller yoghurts! They did the trick. Then went home. The paracetomol and ibroprofen dont seem to be cutting it with the cramping so have just gone back to co-codrydamol which I'd highly recommend for medical and surgical miscarriage. Hoping the effects of anaesthetic die off properly soon. My hubby has been amazing taking me to loo, cooking etc. Like you have all said this feels like i might be now be freed up to properly grieve now that the physical complications have been attended to. Am saddened that so many amazing women have to go through this traumatic loss and pray that no one looses hope. It has def helped my own hope coming on here as my world just seemed to shatter around me. I will def be attending a 'www.sayinggoodbye' service, a uk charity set up to support those having lost a baby.

Someone on mn recommended iron supplements afterwards. It may help you get your iron levels back to normal. Take it slow and let yourself grieve. Hugs to you and your partner.
