Tmi question about post mc bleeding

Sorry if this is a bit gross.
I started to mc a week ago today and was told to expect to bleed for 7 to 10 days, maybe less because I bled excessively the first 24 hours at the hospital. I the bleeding doesn't stop, I'm to go back to the hospital.
The bleeding has reduced significantly as you would expect but is still going on. The thing I'm not sure about is, whilst the last few days of a period is brownish old blood, this has become black and (sorry) sludgy. I have not stopped passing clots, although they are smaller than last week.
They pain went away on Monday but I did a bit much yesterday and it came back with a vengeance.
I would ask my gp but when I went to her on Monday (to ask for some sleeping tablets as I haven't been able to sleep, unsurprisingly), she was totally unsympathetic and basically said I shouldn't expect to eat or sleep for weeks and its really common so stop winging.
I guess I want to know if this is the normal process with mc bleeding or whether its not complete and I need to contact the dr at the hospital again.

Hi Fairy I think stop and start, and clotty, is all normal. My bleeding has tended to be about 10 days, but first AF has been heavy and clotty, even when I've had a scan giving the all clear.
You should have some sort of follow up to ensure the MC is complete, either a scan where they make sure there is no sac/placenta and your womb lining is below a certain thickness ( I think it was 15 mm but don't quote me) or that you get a negative pregnancy test within 2 weeks. It has taken me 3 weeks to get negative HPT but they just check blood HCGs in that case to make sure they are low and falling.
In your shoes I wouldn't worry too much but if it's the same story in another week I'd be on the phone to EPU asking for follow up.

Hi Fairypants,

I hope you are ok, try not to worry too much. I know I do panic from every little thing and it's not cool.
I started miscarrying last Monday and for the last 3 days it has been ver small little black clots or black blood. Every day since Sunday I keep thinking today is the last day of bleeding but it's still going. Today I had a pad in the morning and it was all clear and then in the afternoon had some bleeding, so I guess it might take a while longer.
I have googled this quite a lot (because I was worried) and for some women it lingers for as long as 3 weeks.
I hope for us it will be over soon.
I am going through the same thing as the moment and even though I don't have much knowledge on this (luckily), I'd be happy to share my experience for reassurance, so don't hesitate to ask.
Best wishes x
