Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

How much pain is 'usual' after a MC?

I miscarried on Tuesday, and was eleven weeks. Since then, I have had pain which has escalated.

At first it was like menstrual cramps, but all of today and half of yesterday it has been awkward to even move. Pain in my uterus, terrible aches in my back, and today my ribcage has been hurting too.

Is it all the physical effects of the miscarroage / my body going back to normal, or is it something that I should be concerned about?

I am still bleeding, however it is similar to the last few days of a period.

I had quite a lot of cramps but took nurofen so they weren't really bad. I'd say make sure you take something, even as powerful as cocodemol, and rest. If it doesn't ease then contact the hospital.

Ive been having hot baths and using hot water bottles and paracetamol as and when so will up my usage of them.

I hadnt expected to feel any pain three days after so didnt want to mask it woth oainkillers incase ir was serious. Will not worry for another day or two then.

Could you phone your EPU or out of hours and describe your symptoms? I think you have to be careful about infection following mc so do contact someone if you are at all concerned. Hope things settle for you soon so you can begin to come to terms with your sad loss.

Hi there,
I too had worse pain after the worst was over.. I had a temperature too and got it checked out today by my out of hours gp and have been put on anti biotics for infection.. Might be worth checking it out just in case?
Very sorry for your loss and hope you feel better soon xxxx

I would check with either out of hours or A&E. There are a few possibilities. It could be quite 'normal'. On the other hand, you could have some retained tissues which are causing a problem.

I'm sorry you're going through this Sad

I'm in the same boat as you, i miscarried middle of last week, and the pains fluctuate, however i find that the pains are always just before i pass a clot/lump, or its a indication that i need to go to the loo (#1 or #2). I presume its because there is only so much 'room' inside, and if something is pressing against my womb/uterus then it'll cause pain.
I haven't bothered with cocodamol - i found it caused constipation which lets face it, is something we certainly dont need. I alternate between ibroprofen and paracetemol, but try to take as little as possible.
The bleeding fluctuates as well, some days its horrendous, others is just like a normal period. I guess we're all different, and it'll happen in our own bodys time.
