Miscarrying right now... Help.

I knew a miscarriage was looming as I had 12 wk scan 10 days ago, baby only measured 7 wks. My body just didn't want to believe it, until this evening. I have two girls, so already blessed. I am booked for an ERPC on Thursday as hosp could not fit me in before. I feel I am bleeding really heavily, can't get off the loo, pain is indescribable. Hosp said to go to A&E if really heavy - what is heavy. Husband away so trying to avoid that as nobody to mind the girls. In a spin. Is this level of bleeding going to go on for days. Managed bedtime, but don't know what to do if like this with 4yo and 1 yo at my heels tomorrow. Help.

So sorry for your loss. Doctor told me heavy bleeding was if you saturated a heavy pad. Sorry that's not more helpful but wanted to reply.

Sounds like you need to go to hospital. Is there a neighbour you could call?

Is there anyone you could call? How far is DH? Could he come back?

Or a neighbour mind them if they are asleep, while you go to be seen?

I'm not sure how normal the bleeding is, hopefully people on here will be able to reassure you xxxx

OP is there a friend who can come and stay with you tonight? That way you have a bit of moral support and if you feel the bleeding is unmanageable at any point you can go to hospital and know someone is with your girls. I've had 4 MC at 8-10 weeks and found the bleeding very frightening the first time. IME very heavy bleeding has been short lived and subsided once the sac has passed. I got the feeling of needing to push v similar to 2nd stage labour. If you are filling maxi pads v quickly, or you feel dizzy or faint then you need to be seen. Big clots and heavy bleeding are normal though, I don't think the info given by hospitals adequately prepares you for what might happen. Subsequent times I've stayed at home and avoided the poking, prodding and endless waiting.

Mote, so so sorry to hear this. I don't wish to worry or alarm you, as my experience may be different to yours. I had a mc several years ago (pre-dc) at a similar stage to you.
The pain was indescribable, worse than subsequent labours but this may have been worse due to fear and distress and my dp at the time was very unsupportive.
The bleeding never became massively heavy, but the pain in the end made me call an ambulace (and this was warranted).
Please at least consider having another adult come and be with you for support.

Now in A&E. I was through at least ten pads an hour and very faint and temp. Friend came over and with girls. Thanks for all the support. The info I was given about natural mc really does not prepare you. Husband will be here soon. I know I am going through what so many others do/have. So horrible.

You're right, the info given out for "natural management" is ridiculously scant. So sorry to hear about your baby, OP. I hope you get some rest now.

Heavy is gushing out and changing a pad every 10-20 minutes or so. It can be quite dramatic. If you are worried definitely go to A and E. Hope you feel better soon xx

Sorry, missed the bit where you said you had gone to A and E. I found treating myself like I had just given birth quite helpful. Ironically I was happiest when placed in own room on the (cheerful) post natal ward with proper midwifery care as opposed to being on the gynae ward next to cancer patients, surrounded by death, sharing a bathroom with eight other people. Think I was a bit unusual in that regard, however.

Make sure you drink plenty and eat chocolate and bananas to help your potassium levels.

It is horrible. I was poorly for 3 weeks after I lost DC3, due to blood loss. But all will be well. xx

Mots, I went through the same two weeks ago, at 11 weeks. It was my first pregnancy so in no way was I prepared for any of it. The worst part was the shock and the amount of blood and size of clots.The physical (labour) pain was intense but bearable. The emotional pain was worse, for me. I had two follow up scans to check everything had passed naturally. I've had severe exhaustion and terrible headaches since, but they are now starting to shift. My partner was my rock and I couldn't have gone through that without him, so I do hope you get the same support from your husband. Get as much sleep as you possibly can!

Boffinmum - gushing was the best way to describe it. Admitted to ward late last night. Scan this morning showed some has been retained, so having the ecrp early this evening. Feeling much more human today, so hungry though - nil by mouth for op later. Thank you so much everyone. Mumsnet is a wonderful way of support. You are all so kind.

Look after yourself and try not to rush your recovery emotionally or physically.
