Am I oversensitive or was this crap?

Posting in here because I can't face AIBU.

I had a phone call last week from the appointment secretary for a clinic I'd been referred to because I was pregnant for a pre-existing health condition to say they'd made me another appointment today. I explained that I'd lost the baby, but she said that my GP had requested the appointment and that I should still go. It seemed foolish to refuse the appointment as my GP could have requested a follow-up when I saw her before my ERPC, so I went.

The first thing the doctor said when I sat down was "How's your baby doing?" And when I explained that I'd miscarried he was really stroppy, said there was no need for me to be there, and seemed to feel I was to blame was wasting his time. He could barely get me out of the room fast enough. He didn't apologise. During my mc I had an appointment at the EPU and an ERPC, both shown in my hospital notes - which he had in front of him.

I've emailed the trust to complain but I'm now wondering if I've overreacted...?

You've not over reacted at all, that behaviour is completely unprofessional and the lack of compassion the doctor has shown is so thoughtless. I'm sorry you've had to experience that on top of what must already be such a difficult time for you. I'm angry on your behalf, you've done the right thing in complaining, I hope that doctor realises how heartless he's been and thinks about how he dealt with the situation.

You weren't being over sensitive - you asked, were told you should attend, and though I know they don't often read bits of notes not applicable to their thing, as soon as you said you'd lost the baby the Dr should have handled it better.

They need to decide on whether people who have mc should attend (maybe for advice in handling condition in next pg, management when ttc or whatever), communicate that to the admin staff and gps, and a word about patient care had. If people don't complain, these things don't get sorted out ime

Complain!!! He sounds like an utter twat (scuse my language) and I'm really really sorry you had to sit and hear that . Absolutely disgraceful - people like that should not be permitted to practice.

Complain. That was extremely rude and unprofessional and just plain nasty!!

Thanks all. I decided to go down the more formal written complaint route. I had a phonecall on Friday from the head of clinical services to apologise and I'm waiting for a written response.

It's a condition that's aggravated by pregnancy so they must see a good number of pregnant women - I'd just like them to think about how they handle this sort of thing.

Absolutely not, that's appalling! I'm glad you complained, so sorry you've had to go through this.
