Post miscarriage infection?

Hi all. I just thought I would share my experience in the hope that it helps anyone else wondering if they have a post mc infection.

I started to mc with v v heavy bleeding and clots. Was scanned and told there was a small area of product still attached but then continued with c4 days of horrendously heavy bleeding. It then tailed off to a more period level.
About 2 weeks later i noticed a bad smell (tmi...but basically a bit fishy/rotten meat) so i went to dr and had swab. Was put on antibiotics. 5 days later no change but the swab came back negative for infection. was given different antibiotics.

Here's the thing...i wondered if i was going mad?! Maybe a normal period smells like this? I've never smelled my period b4 so how do i know?!! The smell wasn't strong but it also smelled a bit rotten as i said b4.

Anyhow another couple of weeks later, finished antibiotics.. Still no change to discharge...i was truly wondering if i was mad and maybe the slightly bad smell was normal but then.....it all kicked of again. Hugely heavy bleeding and large clots as before (this is a month later!) and it turned out the bit of sac clinging on to my uterus was still doing just that and was literally rotting inside me (yuck). They managed to get it out....i lost a lot of blood and am now severely anaemic but now 6 weeks after it all kicked off i have stopped bleeding and am on the mend.

Sorry this is so long but basically i want you to know that if your discharge/bleeding smells even slightly off THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG!! Don't doubt yourself and push your gp or the epu to investigate.(my Gp was mad that epu didn't give me a follow up scan)

Hope that is useful. Love to u all x

sorry to hear you went through all of that Sad as if miscarriage isnt a horrrible enough experience as it is.

ive just gone through a natural mc and at the tail end (at least I hope so) I have retained products so my hcg levels are being checked every two days and I'm being scanned weekly to ensure everythinh passes. do you know why you didn't get follow up scans?

ive been mc for three weeks now and also hemorrhaged, its awful that it goes on for so long, must have been terrible to go through that and have it drawn out over so many weeks.

Hi pizzaqueen. I'm sorry u are going through something similar. I have no idea why i didn't get a follow up scan (my GP was furious.. And it turned out he was right to be!).
I had my second hemorrhage (?ie. Bucket loads of blood and clots, overflowing etc) exactly 4 weeks after my first one. Now i have always had a very regular cycle and the lady doing the scan the 2nd time i went in suggested that it might have been my hormones that kicked it all off again....so maybe be prepared if u still have retained products?
The strange thing for me is that i actually felt significantly better just a couple of days before my second big bleed having been so tired and worn out...tho i felt bloody awful afterwards!!
I hope all goes well with u. X
