Factor 5 leiden and miscarriage

Can anyone advise me?
I have a 4 YO DS- no complications in pregnancy, very healthy, forceps delivery but no other complications. Sadly I had a 2nd trimester loss at 18 + 5 4 weeks ago now and I also had a MC at 7 weeks in May last year . We have requested for tests/PM to be carried out on LO which we are waiting for the results of. My paternal Grandmother died of a thrombosis in her leg in 1986. I have read that you have to have 3 MC in a row before any tests are carried out.
My question is that given my family history do you think I should ask for a blood test for factor 5 leiden to be carried out before we TTC again (not decided if we are going to and if we do we will wait for a few months at least) so that I can be treated and monitored? I don't know much about this but a friend of the family is a senior midwife (at a different hospital) and has suggested this. Many thanks.

The requirement to have 3 miscarriages before they will investigate only applies to early (first trimester) losses, so given you've had a late loss you are probably eligible for tests on the NHS.
I don't know much about the factor 5 leiden but it is included in a panel of tests I'm having for recurrent first trimester miscarriages, along with various other clotting/APL antibody tests, karyotyping for both parents, thryoid tests, and antimullerian hormone. My consultant said if I'd had late losses they'd also be looking at physical causes (cervical weakness etc) though maybe not applicable if you've had a healthy term baby.
I'd definitely see if you can be referred to speak to a consultant about which tests might be useful in your situation.
I'm really sorry for your losses, but have found doing something to try to find out why is therapeutic in itself, I hope that's the same for you.

Thanks Baking. It's a horrid thing tohave to go through isn't it? Yes I think I would be able to process all this better if we had a reason why this may have happened and if it can be prevented in the future. Waiting for the results from the tests on little one is agony, they couldn't even tell us if baby was a boy or girl but the tests will. I will bring this up when we go for our follow up appointment with consultant at the hospital- whenever that is likely to be.
