how likely it is to have another mmc?

hi everyone. this might not be the best place to post but was just wondering if anyone knows where i could find numbers on this. All the statistics seem to be appplicable to those who ttc no1. i've had 2 healthy pregnancies and one mmc and trying to find out how likely it is to have another mmc?

You have the same chance as anyone else. Your chances only start going down once you have multiple MC.

I actually spoke to a nurse about this today - she said they do not consider you at higher risk until you have had three or four miscarriages in a row. Until that point they consider that each pregnancy has equal and normal risk (usually about 1 in 4 pregnancies miscarry I believe). It's horrible, but it's just bad luck if it happens more than once (her exact words to me today!) Hope that helps.

Just remembered she also said that after your first or second miscarriage you have about 90% likelihood of a normal pregnancy after that - I don't know if she just plucked that out of the air as an estimate or if it's a genuine statistic, but it's still comforting.

I have had 11 and each time they say to me the chances don't change go up or go down. For me it rally is a 50/50 chance, and my bad luck keeps getting me.

(note I have a underlying genteic problem)

Prof Lesley Regan says the average chance of miscarrying a confirmed pregnancy (after you've missed a period) is 15%, and after a single miscarriage it's 20%.
Your age also affects your chances, in my age group (35-40) it's a 25% chance of miscarriage, if you are >43 it's 50%.
Whichever way you look at it, you have a much better chance of having a successful pregnancy next time than of miscarrying again.

Thanks for that im 5+5 terribly suffering from sickness again and to me thats the worst bit as keep thinking all this possibly for nothing again although i have 2 ds to keep me thinking how lucky ive been... So will try and not complain!

Try to keep positive, it is far more likely to be healthy than not, but I understand why you are worrying. I think I am currently on the brink of a second miscarriage (no DCs yet) however, you've just got to remain positive and hopeful for the next one (this one, in your case!) I presume you are doing all the right things for a healthy pregnancy, that's really all you can do, so be calm and positive and enjoy being pregnant, there is no use in worrying.

Hi working, mmc are less common than natural miscarriage, I've had 2mmc and 2 natural even after having 4 I still have a high chance that it will be successful than not. Any miscarriage is horrendous but I think mmc are particularly tough because you have no reason to think anything is wrong, you think everything is ok because you haven't bled and you still have all the symptoms, it's a terrible shock to find out your little baby has passed away :( I know the early weeks are hard but try and be strong I hope it all goes well for you not too long to wait for you scan x

Thanks butterfly. Im sorry you are going through all this. Cant be easy. My sickness is so bad i can barely function, yet im not actually being sick. Although it was the same in all my other pregnancies, I think its making mentally even more difficult to cope.i might try and see if i can get an even earlier scan even tho i know they probably wont see much

The sickness is awful mine was as bad as yours with my first pregnancy then the other 3 werent as severe but still felt sick. Try and get an earlier scan if you can it will put your mind at rest, because of my history when I become pregnant I get scanned weekly from 5 weeks so they can do it. There is very little to see at 5 weeks but they can usually see a heartbeat by 6, have you asked your go or epu? They might not mind I asked 2nd time around but the midwife refused when I eventually did get a scan epu reported her for not sending me that's what them units are there for but all depends if they will send you, hope they will give it a try x

Thanks butterfly. I think its more than just the pregnancy this time. I think i have some sort of bug as i can barely function and so im feeling awful emotionally too. I asked the midwife in dec when i had the mmc and she said i wouldnt get an early scan. Ive got one booked for this afternoon not sure if it will put my mind at rest tho as not going to b able to see much. It worries me more that i have to drag the 2 dc with me and just pray that they would behave. i ll have to take some serious amount of biscuit with me let you know how it goes x
