Miscarriage ... or not?

Hi,

I've been ttc for two years and had a mc last summer.

This month, a week after ov, I started spotting and assumed my period was on it's way. However after a further week of light and intermittent brown discharge, aching boobs, an odd metallic taste in the mouth and no sign of the evil red tide of doom, I took a test and got a BFP. The spotting continued for a few more days and then on the weekend got heavier. It turned reddish brown but not bright red and stayed a watery/muddy consistency.

When I mc'd last year, I had spotting for a couple of days and then very heavy bleeding and extremely painful cramping/contractions which put me in hospital for a day with hypertension.

I was further along last time (8 - 10 wks) so I would understand that this time would be less 'dramatic' but I've only had mild discomfort for a couple of hours, no clots or dark red blood and my boobs are still very tender. (in theory I'd be 6 - 7 weeks along now)

Speaking to the nurse on the phone she said pregnancy symptoms can continue after a mc because of the remaining hormones which makes sense. So my plan was to wait a week, see what happens with the bleeding, take another hpt and then possibly check in with the Dr. Though I made the mistake of consulting Dr Google this morning and now I'm not certain what to do. The lack of pain makes me think it's not an ectopic, so either I've lost part of it and there's more to come or I haven't lost it at all.
The Dr waiting list takes too long so I'm not likely to be able to see anyone this week and so I'm just going a little crazy wondering what's going on.

Any advice most welcome !

C.

Phone your GP and ask them to fax a referral to your local EPU so you can go for a scan and find out what is happening.
From my experiences it doesn't sound like you have actually miscarried, but you need to know if your pregnancy is progressing or if the bleeding is a sign that something is wrong.
It won't change anything as there is nothing they can do to affect the outcome, but it may help your peace of mind to be more certain what is happening.

Ring your GP and ask to be refereed to the EPAU where a scan will show what is going on. If they have a triage nurse they can refer you over the phone no need fr a consultation.

Good luck

Thank you both so much ... I know it's a simple thing but I didn't know I could do that. I've called the Dr and am getting an appointment for a scan at the EPU.
