Second miscarriage in two months: time off work?

I have just called in sick for tomorrow but feel terrible about it, as it was only a few weeks ago I was signed off for nearly two weeks for the first. I just feel so wretched and would be rubbish at work, but I know I'm going to have royally pissed off my colleagues and boss. Anyone been in the same boat?

Black - I understand why you feel that about work but really the time of is for you to recover and grieve! Your body, emotions have gone through an ordeal and the need to recover should be put first!
Can't you share with your boss or HR?
What you don't want to do is rush back think your ok and break later as you will need more time to recover!

I have told my boss as I figure it's a cast iron reason to be off; I'm just worried about the impact when I do go back. My closest colleague is hard to work with and I don't plan on telling her the truth

I'm sorry for your losses. I had miscarriages 5 months apart and was signed off for over two weeks both times. To be honest I didn't worry too much about how it would effect my workplace as I was too wrapped up in my own grief.

All my colleagues knew about my first miscarriage as I had been ttc for a long time so excitedly told everyone when I fell pregnant. The second time I just told my boss and a couple of close colleagues although I think a few people suspected. I just kind of kept my head down once I went back until I felt ready to engage with everyone again. Those few who knew 'protected' me to an extent from any awkward questions.

Is your boss supportive? Perhaps they can just tell your colleague you have compassionate leave and ensure they don't question you when you go back. Is there anyone else you can confide in at work in case you need a bit of extra support when you go back?

Above all else though do take care of yourself and allow yourself time to grieve. I really do know how it feels.

Right now you are going through the mill so dealing with your difficult colleague seems harder than it will when you are ready to go back.

Time off for miscarriage is pregnancy related so it doesn't even count as sick leave.

I'm feeling better now, guilty for still being off work. Breaking down randomly in the chemist today suggests I was right to accept GP note till Monday.

however this is the first sick note I've had in my life. If this happens me again in a couple of months (if I find the courage to face pregnancy again) I know I will go back too soon.
