Chance of Miscarriage after 3?

Basically that.

I had my 3rd miscarriage on December 20th at 7 weeks (MMC).

All 3 have been different..23 weeks. Natural at 7 & mmc at 7 weeks so had D&C.

I just want to know the chances of having another? I know it goes up the more you have.

Because of the miscarriage at 23 weeks I get extra scans and swabs because if weak cervix and placental infection. I've heard if you have had placental infection in you first pregnancy its a 50/50 chance of getting it in your next.. true or false?

Just want to know for the future, bodies resting after the bad year!

Oh Sophie, that is awful. You have my deepest sympathies.

I know you said you will now be checked for cervical weakness and infection, but are you being offered any further testing? Have you been referred to a recurrent miscarriage centre?

I can only tell you about my experience. I had three miscarriages but much much earlier than you, and so not as hard. I was tested for blood clotting issues and much more recently for thyroid problems. I have tested positive for both and with treatment for both am now 12 weeks pregnant with dc2. It's worth noting that the thyroid thing can apparently cause miscarriage even at levels that wouldn't cause concern amongst the non pregnant.

Anyway, the more relevant point is that after 3 miscarriages the nhs is usually receptive to proper investigations, and I would do that if I were you, and it may be fixable like my problems have been (fingers crossed). I know when I was going to various ivf clinics, the news that I'd had miscarriages always made the doctors' eyes light up. It seems much better to be able to get pregnant and lose them than not get pregnant at all. I'm sure you will be successful. There are an awful lot more miscarriages than you realise.

I have an appointment March 7th, so it's a while away yet. After the loss of my little boy i lost 2 stone within a month, but i didn't see anyone about it until Octor when i got diagnoised with an Over-active thyroid but it's back to normal now. Saw the thyroid specialist and he said he doens't think my two most recent early losses are due to it.

So is your appointment with a recurrent miscarriage clinic or something similar?

I also know someone who had five miscarriages before their ds, with no explanation. So don't give up hope. I'm sure you will get there.

Sorry to hear what you have been through. As the above posters have said ask to be referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic. We had three miscarriages then got referred then went on to have a further three got referred again and they found something they hadn't the first time round. As a result our DD was born in March, so be persistent.

Yes, I've been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic- which is March :).

I've had chromosome testing in both me and my partner and blood clotting tests. Both fine, they were both after Riley (23week loss).

It is hard to interpret figures about chances of recurrence / success, as there are so many different reasons for miscarriage, as well as various risk factors. As you are young (you mentioned 18 on another thread), you should have a better chance than average, so even after three miscarriages you are more likely than not to have a successful outcome the next time.

As other posters have said, it would be really good talk to your GP about referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic, or perhaps get in touch with the consultant who looked after you when you lost your little boy.

Again, so sorry to hear of your dreadful experiences... But still sending hope for that you will still have a lovely little rainbow baby after all this.
