Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Do I need to wait for AF before ttc again after mc?

Hi everyone, had a mc at 11 weeks on 26 Sep which finally seems to have stopped today. I know doctors suggest waiting until after first AF before ttc as it helps with dating the pregnancy, but I am 41 and feel that every month lost is time slipping away. My question is, does getting pregnant before your first AF increase the risk of another mc? Is your body physically ready to embark on another pregnancy or do I just need to be patient to give myself the best chance of a successful pg? Thanks for any info!

i was told that there would be no problem if i conceived straight away it was just tricker to work out the dates? but i too am not sure- i am awaiting af after mc in early september but af has still not arrived...

Hi Wooly I'm really sorry you lost your baby.

You are no more likely to MC again if you don't wait, it's just the issue with dating a pregnancy when the cycle after MC is often longer than normal and you may not be sure when you'll ovulate. Supposedly you are more fertile in the months after a MC but I don't know if that is true. There is a nice thread on the conception board for those TTC after a MC if you feel like joining us?

Thanks for your replies. Messtins, I do lurk and (very) occasionally post on the TTC after MC thread so will see you over there!

Hi im so sorry for your loss. I just wanted to add my experience.
I had a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks (baby had stopped developing at 8 weeks). That was in March of this year. I am now almost 30 weeks pregnant. I fell pregnant straight after my miscarriage without a period in between.
I have been told that getting pregnant again so quickly does not increase the chances of another miscarriage, it is treated as a completely new pregnancy and has the same chance of success as any other pregnancy. I phoned the local early pregnancy unit for advice on this when 1st found out I was pregnant again and they got me in for a scan straight away to date the pregnancy.
I hope this helps :)

The consultant who dealt with my ERPC said that i should not have sex for 6 weeks afterwards as I would almost certainly get pg and almost certainly miscarry again. I don't know if that's because of my age (40), or something else peculiar to me Confused. I didn't question him much about it as I can't face going through all this again, so will not be tttcing.
