Hi

My friend is going through a miscarriage, it started last week and today she has been to hospital and taken a pill. She says she was told to expect pain and bleeding. I dont really know what to say to her. So if anyone has any advice, or any knowledge so that I can tell her a bit more what to expect, when the bleeding will start, how many days etc I would be grateful.

Thanks

There is not much you can say really. Just be there for her and encourage her not to do too much. I found it physically and mentally draining. Even the most simple thing like walking around the shops made me shattered. It's ok to take time to recover and do things a bit more slowly than you would normally. It's also ok to have waves of emotion. Sometimes I felt ok and others I would feel really weepy. I couldn't control it so I tried to ensure I wasn't in a situation where I might get upset with people who didn't know. Everyone reacts differently so just ask her what support she feels she needs.....it will probably vary week to week, month to month, depending on how she copes with it. Hope this helps.
