Still 'pregnant' 10 days post miscarriage - more tests :(

I miscarried at 8 weeks over the w/end of 8-9 September, and had a scan on the Thursday saying my uterus was clear. I was asked to do a pregnancy test today to ensure it was negative but it's not, and now the EPU want me back in for more blood tests to make sure my HCG is dropping. I already have to go to GP next week for more swabs because the hospital lost them. I'm so sick of this - I just want it to be over so I can grieve for my baby in peace. Hoping if I go to EPU then I might be able to get it all done at once, I'm sure even though I've spoken to the GP to arrange it once I get there it will be somebody's elses job to do the swabs and blood tests and I'll need yet another appointment.
A crap situation just keeps getting crappier.

I've had two losses at 7 weeks and 9 weeks and both times it took around a month for the tests to go negative even after the ERPC. It felt like eternity. Whereas some women go to zero really quickly, in a week or less.

That's the other big issue with miscarriages besides the obvious - once you lose your baby you just want things to reset back to TTC but it's a sodding mountain to climb to even get back to the start again. Often not made easier by incompetence on the part of medical staff (been there too..) So, so frustrating.

Well that makes me feel better actually - of course you start thinking all sorts of stuff about molar pregnancies etc but I hope it is just taking time to get back to zero. I've managed to get an appointment with the GP practice nurse tomorrow so she can do the bloods and if I plead might do the swabs as well rather than waiting until next week for those. Getting to EPU early in the morning is difficult as I also need to get my son to school. There is a limit to how much time off DH can take to cover for these endless appointments.

snap i started miscarrying 7/8th september spent 3 days in hospital due to pain and then sent home to miscarry naturally. i too am still pregnant according to blood tests which i have been having every 2 to 3 days. i feel shocking too and have two young children. it feels like an eternity of feeling poorly and my emotions are all over the place. the hospital are ringing me tomorrow once they have analysed my latest blood results.

mumtoaandj hope you get good news tomorrow. It's not often I've been hoping for a HPT to be negative, we waited a year for this BFP, but to have it lingering long after the baby has gone is adding insult to injury.

so sorry to hear your going through this messtins, but was just wondering if you could have conceived since your miscariage and your last pregnancy test last thursday? Sorry if I'm being insensitive, hope things get sorted...

my hcg level is below 50 so on the way now- they are happy to discharge me.I am negative on a pregnancy wee test. There seems to be light. I know that feeling, all the wanting of a positive test then a miscarriage and just waiting for positives to turn negative. Those cherished positives now are lost.

It's very hard emotionally hoping for BFNs when you spend so long desperate for BFPs. I've found myself squinting at tests, hoping I don't see a shadow at last, which means I've reached zero

For what it's worth, with a chemical I had recently, I was still seeing shadows on tests, but a blood test that day was 4, which is definitely under the 10 even the most sensitive tests show. So there's a definite lag of a few days between the strength of the wee stick and what is actually in your blood.

The logistics of it all with appointments and so on, are just one more extra insult to injury, aren't they? I remember I went private for one loss, and ended up a thousand pounds out of pocket as I went over my outpatients expenses limit as there were so many damned stupid appointments. Saw the nurse who was v nice and has sorted swabs, HCG and a TORCH screen for me. In bed now feeling sick (don't cope well with internals) but at least it is done. Next appt (sigh) to see GP on Tuesday, when bloods should be back, but swabs will take up to a fortnight, and then they will probably want to see me AGAIN.

To add insult to insult to injury, my booking appointment would have been this afternoon and it's the same waiting area. Full of bumps clutching their yellow books.

Oh, isn't that always the way? I remember coming home from my ERPC and in the post that day was my letter scheduling my 12 week scan. Har har har.

Have been there with the miscarriage watching the big bumps get all excited over their scans/appointments :(

i know- i was in hospital doubled over in pain waiting for a scan in the same room as mums with bumps waiting for 20 week scans.

Saw a very nice GP today and all the results were back (is there an 'amazed' emoticon that the NHS can be efficient sometimes?) Swabs negative, bloods showed I was immune to parvovirus and rubella but no active infections, still not immune to toxoplasma after 14 yrs working with cats....and my HCG is still in the pregnant range but not sky-high. I have to either get a negative HPT or go back for more bloods at the end of the week, then I can finally draw a line under it.

Heh, yeah - I had a toxo test a few years ago and I could never work out how I'd not had it, having had cats for years and spent most of my childhood grubbing in the dirt and not washing my hands!!

I hope your HPTs go stark white very soon!

Not often I wish for a negative HPT, but at the moment it would be very welcome to save my bruised arms from any more needles.

I've not (knowingly) had my HCG levels tested and no one has even mentioned this to me. I miscarried on Saturday 22nd through medical management. Is it something that I should phone the EPU about? I was just told to wait until my next period before trying again but now I'm a bit worried that I've missed a bit in the process :-(

Hi whiterose I'm sorry you are going through this too. You should have a date for a re-scan after medical management to ensure the miscarriage is completed, then I had to do a pregnancy test a week after a clear scan to ensure it was negative. It wasn't, and still isn't another 10 days later so they are monitoring HCG until it drops to zero.
If you haven't got an appointment for a scan then I'd contact the EPU, if you get a negative pregnancy test then you probably won't need the bloods doing.

If it isn't bad enough having to go through this, you then have to chase for the information. This is my first MC so not sure what's the norm.

I hope it's my last. :-(
