early miscarriage

Hi, i'm new here and i just wondered if someone could help
I suffered a miscarriage at 6wk+1 on June 5th this year, i was taken into hospital at the end of may and spent a week there because the docs wanted to check my hormone levels as I was bleeding and had been for almost a week (i bled the whole way through my last pregnancy so i wasn't too worried) they thought my pregnancy might have ectopic. My hormone levels didn't rise over 1100.5 and i know that to see the baby on a scan it needed to at least 1500 so they couldn't actually see where baby was even with a vaginal scan; although they did find evidence of a cyst on my right ovary.
Due to my hormones not rising and my body starting to show signs of starting a natural miscarriage i was given an injection called methatrexate (which induces a natural miscarriage), monitored for 24hours and then allowed to go home.
I was told by the docs that i could bleed for upto 6weeks after the injection but my other half and I have worked out that in total (before i was taken to hospital) that i have been bleeding for a total of 9weeks and the bleeding isn't light! I have to use night-time pads all the time and it's starting to drive me nuts! I have tried to see my G.P. and also my consultant at the hospital to no avail.
I would like to know if any other mums have experienced this problem? And I would also like opinions on what i should do next?
Thank you xx

hi mumofone
im really sorry to hear about this i lost 2 babies to miscarriage in 2009 and 2010. the first miscarriage ihad in 2009 was pretty simular you what your detailing in you message i experienced pains for weeks then started bleeding was taken to hospital treated for etopic pregnancy until i had a scan and they could not see any sign of a baby so the misscarriage had happend and i was in the middle of it it was horrible i was very heavy bleeding for weeks and it just got heavier and more weekspassed and spent most my time in bed all i can suggest is getting some plastic bed sheets to put over your mattress with sheets and blankets on top that way the mattress wont get ruined, this is what i had to do with mine. if your still worried about the bleeding try calling nhs direct and tell them that your still bleeding after 9+ weeks after misscarriage and they may get you in hospital for another scan. im very sorry to hear about the loss and i hope your coping ok xx

Hi mumofone2009

So sorry to hear what you are going through it must be terrible.
I had an early mc 3 wks ago but my experience was very different to yours.
The only advise I have is make sure you look after yourself and eat and drink well. Losing so much blood must be a drain on your body.

I took iron tablets (over the counter supplements) but found a pint of Guinness every evening (which I'm told is high in iron) did wonders for energy and mood improvement :)

I hope this ordeal stops for you soon, my heart goes out to you.

has it been 6 weeks since the injection? doesn't seem right you should stay at home and suffer. can a d&c be done this early in case something left? sorry I don't know answer to that myself, or there are other medications you can take to help nature take its course. usually involve admission and monitoring, again don't know if can have them at this stage. my miscarriages where later on. the hospitals response often seems to be go home and nature will take its course eventually, which may be true in a lot of cases.but but its stressful on you. I would be inclined to push gp and if not getting anywhere take yourself to the emergency/early pregnancy assessment unit of your local hospital and see if they can do anything. good luck.
