Bleeding - how soon will i know if miscarriage?

i'm 10 weeks and have had bright red spotting today - I know it might be fine, but I'm preparing myself for the worst.

I can't have a scan until Monday and just want to know - if i am miscarrying, is it likely to get heavier very soon? ie before then, or can you have spotting for a while before heavy bleeding starts? The not knowing whats happening is horrible.

I have to say that with both of my miscarriages, the bleeding was heavy straight away and both me and the hospital were in no doubt what was going to happen. Without trying to raise your hopes, I think spotting in a normal pregancy does happen and things can turn out ok. I think bad cramps are the deal breaker. I hope things turn out ok for you. Good luck (p.s. I now have two children DS11, DD6)

Hi,

With me, I started spotting on Wednesday but didn't miscarry fully until the following Monday.
Unfortunately it is different for everyone so that's no indication for you.

As you say, spotting is common in early pg, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that this is nothing more than that.

I'm feeling a lot more positive thank you - I am not sure if this is because the mc is over or if it is because I am now focusing on ttc again. Not sure if this is too soon to start again but it's how I feel and dh supports it so think we'll just see what happens. Hope you are ok and will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Just an update - scan confirmed no heartbeat and only measured 6 weeks. Sad Pretty rubbish but I was expecting it tbh, i think i knew for a while it wasn't right - i wasn't feeling sick enough for me compared to previous pregs. Going to wait and see what happens in the next few days and they'll rescan me next Monday. Just want it to be over now and move on.

Really sorry to hear that orangewellies I know what you mean about expecting it but it's impossible to give up hope until you know for definite. I think my mc was at about 8 weeks - I bled for about 6 days but it was only heavy on one day near the start. I had a scan on Sunday, where they thought baby might still be ok but by the scan on the Wednesday, everything had gone and lining of uterus had gone back to normal. I started to feel a lot better and more positive about things once the bleeding ended - don't know if this was to do with hormones. Thinking of you.
