I have just returned home from the hospital, after finding out I have just had a complete miscarriage. I only found out I was pregnant just over 2 weeks ago, after having suffered a miscarriage in January this year and started bleeding over the weekend. Its been a rollercoster of emotions, but I did have a feeling all would not be well this time.
Trying to be positive, I do not need any further treatment this time. Last time, I had a mmc, at around 9 weeks, and underwent medical treatment rather than a D&C.
However, i was told at the hospital to wait for 2-3 perioed before ttc again. Given I am 38 (39 later this yr) I didn't want to wait too long before trying again.
I have read various posts, as well as medical advice, to start ttc as soon as possible, as success rates within the first 6 mths after a mc are usually higher.
Has anyone got any advice as to when the best time is? I would like to start as soon as possible, but also want to give myself the best chance.

Not sure if it helps as my mcs were earlier than yours, but I miscarried at 5 weeks in January, again at 4+ weeks in February (really just a 'chemical pregnancy' but actually worse for pain and bleeding than the five week one) and got pregnant yet again in March (now nearly 17 weeks). I took the view that my body wouldn't ovulate until it was ready to get pregnant again, and in fact the third ovulation (i.e. the March one) was delayed by a week or two.

If I'd realised that I would conceive so repeatedly I would actually have waited before the third one because I was sick immediately with all of them (so a couple of weeks of feeling increasingly ill in both Jan and Feb) and was hospitalised with hyperemesis by the end of week 5 with no. 3. The hyperemesis has been such a slog (still mostly in bed) that with hindsight I would have given myself a month to relax, get fit, eat well (and preferably get a bit fat!) and enjoy not feeling sick. But apart from that there don't seem to have been ill effects of being pregnant repeatedly in such a short space of time.

I did see my GP though after the second consecutive loss and she did some blood tests to check there wasn't anything obvious causing them. By the time the results came through (all fine) I was chucking up with no. 3!

Hi lulubelle, so sorry to hear of your losses.
I miscarried at 11 weeks in march, was told we could try again after my first AF, conceived straight away but miscarried again at 6 weeks. Like you, the scan revealed the last, early miscarriage was complete so I didn't need any further treatment.
I wasn't given any different advice about waiting longer this time so I think we'll try again sooner rather than later, as I'm 44 time isn't on my side so I don't want to risk waiting too long. If I was younger I think we'd wait as it is physically and emotionally draining going through a miscarriage, even an early one.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Sorry to hear of your loss Sad

I've had three in two years and was certainly told at the last one, about five or six weeks ago, not to wait as research out in late 2011 had indicated that there is a higher chance of conceiving immediately afterwards, and a lower chnace of mc. I'm much, much older than you though Smile so that may have been a factor in their advice too.

Take care - and good luck x

Thank you for all your kind words and advice. I think I was very early on in this pregnancy, around 6 weeks.
Hopefully, the bleeding will settle shortly. My preg test today at the hospital was already neg.
I think dh and I feel we need to start as soon as possible, but not lose sight of just enjoying being together. I'll continue to take my folic acid and vit d and see what happens.
Trying to be positive and relax. 3rd time lucky! Going to have my first g&t for a few weeks and enjoy it! Just the one though.
