Miscarriage & cystitis

Hello, I had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago and dtd for the first time since then on Saturday. I now have cystitis and it's got me thinking that I get cystitis a lot (seriously... almost after every time I hav sex recently) and I wondered if there's any link between this and miscarrying. Also another question, Maybe Not for ths section but is there anyone lose who suffers frequently from cystitis out there? How do you cope with trying to conceive when you know there's a good chance you'll get ill after sex?

Thanks x

Daft question, but are you sure it's cystitis?(has your urine been tested?) I thought I was getting recurrent cystitis, always when I had my period, but tests showed it was actually endometriosis growing on my bladder. The symptoms are exactly like cystitis. My recent mc triggered it again.

If it is cystitis, can the gp not put you on constant low-dose antibiotics to prevent further attacks?

My gp is hopeless, they just come out with the standard lines... Wash and wee after sex and drink lots of water. I'm starting to wonder about whether it is cystitis though after what you've said, the last couple of times I had my urine tested they couldn't find infection in it but gave me the anti-biotics for cystitis anyway which sorted it out. Maybe another dr app is needed. Thanks for answering, I think I'm just being paranoid tht it could have caused my mc, it would somehow be easier to think there was a reason for it rather than just 'one of those things'

My dr friend says the wee after sex advice is outdated now and hasn't been shown to achieve anything. Low-dose abs are your best bet. I know it's an awful time but if a pregnancy is going to miscarry the chances are the baby had a chromosomal abnormality and there's nothing you could have done. It's rubbish though I know.

I had cystitis before during and after conception (useless doctor gave me the wrong antibiotics whilst I was pregnant!) and it's had no effect. Didn't get rid of it til I was about 2 months gone, it was a nightmare. I do sympathise, I kept getting it every time I had sex, totally put me off. Haven't had it since then though. Have you looked at your diet? Upped your fluid intake? Vitamins? Little things can make such a difference.

Although I always keep those cystitis sachets in the cupboard....just in case.

Actually just a thought....are you sure it's recurrent? I thought mine was until a different doctor gave me the right antibiotics. Maybe you've been given antibiotics that are resistant to the particular bugs you have and are just suppressing the symptoms? I was given amoxicillin and then was given cefalexine (sp) which worked. Defo worth asking about I think.

Hi there, I used to get recurrent cystitis as well, I have so much sympathy for you because it's an awful thing to have! Low dose antibiotics worked for me while I took them and then stopped working. Total TMI but when you wipe your front end, do you wipe back to front or front to back? Front to back is the best way to stop from triggering cystitis.

The main thing that worked for me is that I started strengthening my core muscles and since then I have had no more cystitis. And that's since February. I got an exercise bike and cycle on it with my back straight for 20mins a day and that seems to have worked for me. I had back pain, abdominal pain and regular cystitis. Had scans and all that to check for other problems but that seemed to be it. Needed to strengthen core muscles. Could be an idea. When your core muscles aren't strong then it can set of other health problems including cystitis.
