Am I having a miscarriage??

I miscarried in February this year, and it was fairly quick, started cramping, then spotting brown, then red, then took a htp and it said 'not pregnant.'

I found out a few days ago that I'm 5/6 weeks pregnant... On Thursday I had quite a bit of spotting (mostly brown then pinkish) and period cramps, yesterday morning I took a FRER and the line was much darker than the day before.

Last night I had such bad cramps (and still spotting) so went to A&E... I was given a physical examination and they said they can see blood, but I'm not actively bleeding and my cervix is long and tightly closed. (no scan till Monday,)

Last night I continued to spot and the blood got redder... And there was a bit more of it.

This morning I've taken another FRER and it's the same as yesterday's, not fainter.

I'm still cramping though... And spotting red blood :( am I miscarrying again??

I'm sorry you are going through this.

In my limited experience there is no definite way of knowing. A test can still remain positive even though you are miscarriying. You need a scan to see what is going on. Can you phone your doctor or out of hours clinic and speak to them? Best wishes, its horrible, I know.

curiousgeorgie · 19/05/2012 13:40

They're not going to scan me until Monday. The bleedings stopped but the pain on one side is still there....

Ohhhh curious - I can't believe that you can't get a scan till Monday!
It must be so hard for you going through that and not knowing!
I also agree doing tests will not shed any light on if your still pregnant or not as it's about the hormones level which won't go for a while!!!
I know the pain of multiple losses! And I pray all will be well!
If only we could fast forwards to Monday!

Can anyone reassure me? I've started spotting again this morning (so now on and off (but mostly on!) for 4 days!! (less pain now though!)

But I just took a clearblue digital and it has changed in those 4 days to 3+... On Thursday it was 2-3.

Is this really reassuring or can this be misleading?

Anyone? I'm going insane! Xx

Bleeding can be down to any number of things and unfortunately u won't know til u have a scan although early scans can also be a mixed blessing as they aren't always accurate and depending in gestation it's not alwYs possible to see a heart beat. All you can really do is wait and see at the scan but be prepared for the fact that they may request blood tests to check hormone levels and a repeat scan depending in what they see . Fingers crossed all is ok :) don't keep testing as it will drive u crazy and obviously go to a&e if ir gets worse and any more painful :(

tightwad · 20/05/2012 15:42

Hi Geiorgie. Please dont bother with the pregnancy tests my love they will give you no definitive information at all.

They will give a positive result for up to 3 weeks after a complete miscarriage ime. Even when bleeding has stopped and everything has gone, the preganncy hormones hang around for ages. This gives a + test result.

Nothing any one can say until you have had your scan tomorrow, there is just no way of being 100% sure.

Sorry you are suffering this again, it truly is awful x

curiousgeorgie · 20/05/2012 17:19

I know it's stupid to keep taking tests and that they can stay positive for a while, but isn't it a good sign that while I'm been bleeding my test has gone from 2-3 to 3+?

Oh love, please step away from the tests, they will give you no definite answers. However, I think it isn't a bad sign (IYKWIM). I'll never forget sitting on the loo after taking one of those tests (3 days into spotting/light bleeding) and watching the display take forever to decide how pregnant I was. When it finally, finally decided I was only 2-3, I knew in my heart things were looking grim.
I've got my fingers crossed for you and will be thinking of you tomorrow.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. There is just no way of knowing without a scan, I have lost myself and know how absolutely awful the waiting is but try not to keep testing, I showed a positive pregnancy test for weeks after I miscarried and one minute I was 2-4 the next 2 the next 4-5 etc etc pregnancy hormones fluctuate and stay around for ages
I'm afraid. I did also have massive bleeding at 8 weeks and went on to have a healthy baby. If the pain gets worse please go back to the hospital. All the luck in the world for tomorrow. X

Hi everyone, I had a scan and she couldn't see anything, said there wasn't much evidence of any bleeding and that the lining was very thick.

They took my levels and they have increased, but haven't doubled :(

620 to about 950 between Friday night and Monday morning...

That's not good is it :(

Countmyblessings · 21/05/2012 14:28

Oh curious that awful that you had a scan and they still can't reassure you at all! I'm not sure about the levels. Did they tell you to come back?
As others have said don't do anymore tests and just keep an eye on the bleeding and also the pain, don't try and ignore the pain and if it continues please go A&E!!! I can't remember if you mentioned are you getting support from your DP/DH or any other family! I do hope you are!
All the best xxx

curiousgeorgie · 21/05/2012 14:33

Yes, my DH is lovely...

I have to back on Wednesday morning to get the levels checked again.

I haven't been bleeding at all today and the pain as really subsided but the levels haven't doubled as they should... But have increased? I don't know what to think. This is so hard.

They took the scan before my repeat levels and at the scan said that it was probably too early to see anything and that I shouldn't worry too much until I got my hcg level back :(

Mama1980 · 21/05/2012 14:45

Hi curious I'm so sorry they weren't able to give you a better answer as to what's going on. Sadwhat did they say about the levels? Daft question I know but how are you doing?

curiousgeorgie · 21/05/2012 14:57

Just that they hadn't doubled and that they should have.... I asked if this meant things could still be okay and she just said "well, they should really double."

I'm okay... Devastated actually but just reading about another poster who lost her DH and it puts my concerns into perspective!

I'm so sorry. In my experience (I'm no expert at all) when I miscarried at 8 weeks -they were keeping a close eye on me as I had bleeding-my levels kept increasing but only slightly , which my dr said didnt look good-I then had a definite mc but a pg test was still positive 3 weeks later. When pregnant with my ds I bled very heavily at 8 weeks but levels dramatically increased which is how they knew I was still pregnant as scan showed lots of bleeding the sac itself was hard to see. I really hope you have good news j will be keeping my fingers crossed for you x

Adayforthinking · 21/05/2012 15:15

Curious, I don't know whether this will help you at all, but with my first PG, I was about 5-6 weeks PG when I had an MC and my first set of bloods was already very low at 259, so yours certainly sounds a bit more promising.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
