Brown bleeding and 'debris'. TMI

Sorry for the graphic title.

I am 7.2 weeks pg today and when I wiped I noticed brown blood on tissue, it was very faint and a slight pinky brown colour (more brown than pink). I also saw very very small brown strings, they were teeny, like a pen line.

I am monitoring myself for any stomach pains etc. but I have no idea if I'm being a hypochondriac! There are pains, but I am constipated, so it's probably that plus stretching pains. I am certainly not talking any more that a dull achy feeling, like I need a poo

I woke up feeling more suck than ever before today too, I still have raging pregnancy symptoms.

I am planning on telling my mum about the pregnancy this morning, but unsure whether to do do now. I have just lost my dad to cancer :(

No idea why I'm posting this, probably because it's cathartic, but also I would like to know if this is how miscarriage normally starts?

Hi disco, I would phone your GP and they will probably advise you to go to the hospital you are planning on having the baby at and go to their EBP (early bleed in pregnancy clinic). It's probably something and nothing apparently bleeding in early pregnancy is very commen and can be due to implantation in the womb (google it and it explains all). Unfortunately I had a MC yesterday Sad. I had an internal scan and they told me I had MC'd. Good luck hope everything will be ok get lots of rest, keep us posted. Smile

Rowood · 17/05/2012 09:02

I've had two Mcs and bled with two successful pregnancies. The worst bleeds were actually with the pregnancies. They are all different to be honest. What I would say is take it easy and lie down as much as you can. You pregnancy symptoms are a great sign though because I didn't have these or lost them before I bled with MCs.
Good luck and relaxxxx Wink

discobeads · 17/05/2012 16:26

thank you. I had expected differing stories from everyone, I know there is just no exact answer or science to this pregnancy lark :) I just want to know for myself, as the anxiety is horrific.

I am still having very small amounts of brown watery discharge, but it really is small amounts.

I have spoken to the doctor who said that as the discharge is not bright red, the signs are good, although obviously you never can tell. He felt sorry for me i think, with the fear of one loss straight after another - he has referred me to the EPU for a scan, this will take place on wednesday next week.

I couldnt bring myself to tell my mum about the pg, in case I lost the baby - I dont want to upset her right now.

Spoke to DH who will be coming with me next week to the hospital - he reminded me that I bled regularly with dd throughout pregnancy. So here's hoping. However dd's was more like a period each month and started right when she was conceived - i knew when my "bleeding days" would be as they tied in with my cycle. This pg has not been like that, and even if it started, my period would not be due for another 2 weeks - so unlikely.

I keep having stomach cramps, but then realise it is wind Grin So I am definitely overthinking this - its just a waiting game i guess.

Hi disco I really hope it's good news for you and as others have said, for some bleeding can be entirely normal in early pregnancy. Just wanted to give a balanced picture: 2 of my 3 mc's started with brown discharge and jelly like stuff (v small amounts). In addition the first signs of ectopic are brown 'prune like' juice (fairly rare though). I would get a referral or self refer to your local EPU for piece of mind. They should be able to give you a scan on the spot. Many are open long hours (mine is 7 till 9). Good luck x

backwardpossom · 17/05/2012 19:02

I would get in touch with your EPU if I were you. It's probably nothing, but this was the only symptom I had for my missed miscarriage. Fingers crossed you get a better outcome than I did! x

discobeads · 17/05/2012 19:32

oh it doesnt sound good does it :( do you think i should get in touch with the EPU then, and request an earlier scan? I was told by the doc that the only time they could fit me in was early on weds morning.

I would just give them a call and see what they say, they'll keep you right. :) I don't want to scare you (sorry, I know I will have), because it is very common to have brown spotting in pregnancy so chances are everything's fine. I have friends who had spotting throughout their pregnancies and there really was nothing to worry about. Apparently it is common to have brown bleeding when your period would have been due. But do get checked out for your own peace of mind! Good luck and let us know how you get on x

WhatDreamsMayCome · 18/05/2012 00:59

discobeads, try not to worry (easier said than done, I know). The presence of strong pregnancy symptoms and constipation sound positive and if you bled throughout the previous pregnancy with dd, then you shouldn't think negatively.

As other mnetters have advised, speak to the EPU at the first opportunity and take the first appointment you can. Until then, if you are still up at this time, lie on your left side (supposed to help blood flow to the placenta), go through a positive mantra in your mind, keep warm but get some fresh air into your room and breathe deeply and slowly (again oxygen to the placenta)
I hope it goes well for you.

backwardpossom · 18/05/2012 17:59

Hope you're ok today, disco

discobeads · 18/05/2012 19:03

hello, thank you for your kind, and really helpful messages.

I am still having low stomach pains, and now some back ache - but no bleeding today which I can only hope is a good thing :) Am still having discharge, which at times is beige in colour (i guess yesterdays blood?) but othertimes is clear or whitey coloured. (sorry for TMI)

Stomach pains are stronger when bowel/bladder full, so wonder if it's more general discomfort type pain, than miscariage? I don't know.

Upshot is, today I am much more relaxed and happier. Have a stinking cold though - I had resigned myself to the fact that I had lost this baby and now feel scared to be excited, a bit like I am in limbo really.

Hi disco and so sorry you're in awful 'limbo' period. I would call your EPU first thing monday morning and ask if you could go up for a scan. (I'm presuming yours will not run on a weekend as ours doesn't.)

Take care and keep posting. Will keep my fingers crossed for you x

bugsylugs · 19/05/2012 03:05

Thinking of you am in limbo too

Countmyblessings · 19/05/2012 05:45

Ohhhhhhhh Disco - you must be so scared!!!
When pregnant you really do fear seeing blood and when you have pains it's really distressing! Def try and get into the EPU earlier as the waiting must be driving you mad!!!!!!! I really do hope that it's all well! So many of us know how it is and we are sending cyber hugs and best wishes x

discobeads · 19/05/2012 21:10

well its all very odd :)

today no fresh bleeding, despite the threat of it last night. More of the original brown stuff - though it is more like beige mucus with coffee grounds in it. and never enough to stain my pants or anything, just there when i wipe (and i am not running to the toilet loads, probably only 5 times today) and just a smear each time.

I found my menstrual calender, and if i were still having periods, it would be due this monday, so the bleeding is not quite as irregular as I first thought.

Still niggly aches and pains, but I am remaining positive, and trying not to think about it much.

Bugsy, so sorry you are in this position too. You are very brave posting on my thread, I cannot bring myself to look at others incase the stories are not good ones.....

It is such an awful time. I am so grateful for your replies, yet sorry you have been in this position :(

xx

Have everything crossed its all good!

Rowood · 20/05/2012 21:39

Hoping you are ok Disco. Keep us informed Smile

Pinklaydee1972 · 20/05/2012 21:49

Disco I too very scared had bright red discharge now it's brown, had pains too. Gotta wait 2 weeks for scan as only 5 weeks

discobeads · 20/05/2012 22:58

Oh pink how awful for you :( has the bleeding finished now?

Not much to report today I am very pleased to say :) no stabbing pains, not much achiness (though took it easy) and only a spot of brown at lunchtime. Nothing before or since.

Am hoping this is the end of my worry, and I can wait until weds for my scan and leave tomorrow and Tuesday free for people in worse situations than me.

Thank you for asking after me :)

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 20/05/2012 23:25

Got my fingers crossed Disco, let us know how it goes x

Countmyblessings · 21/05/2012 12:45

Ohhhhh pink I pray it will all calm down and not cause you any distress!
I don't understand how you have to wait and you can't have a walk in appointment! I'm in London and there are hospitals that have walk in - kings college has it and does Croydon hospital, St George's, and also St Hellier!!!!!!!!
Disco I understand that bleeding has stopped but I would still go Tuesday just so you can relax abit!!!!
Praying all in this situation all will be well
X

discobeads · 23/05/2012 15:55

hello all, sorry I've not been back to this thread before. No more bleeding since the weekend thank goodness.

I went to EPU today and had an internal scan - live baby and heartbeat seen in utero. Grin

no explanation for bleed, but I don't care anymore!! dates measure me 7 weeks instead of the 8+1 I expected, but dd1 measured smaller than dates too, so I'm not bothered :)

thank you for all your support, and I hope this thread brings reassurance to others going through this awful time.

Pink, I am thinking of you.

That's great news discobeads! See dh was right to reassure you (sometimes they are right Wink) Your heart must have jumped when you saw the heartbeat. You can relax now. Good to read a positive story about bleeding that doesn't mean mc.
Hope that pink is ok.
