Think I'm miscarrying @ 5 weeks, what to expect?

I think I'm miscarrying :(
I've been cramping for a few days and today I started to spot around lunchtime. The cramping has increased and bleeding is now heavier. I thought something might be up as my clearblue test hadn't increased from 1-2 weeks.

I know it's quite early in the pregnancy but I'm not sure what to expect, how painful is going to get?
Is a GP visit necessary?
I have 3dc and school runs tomorrow. Dh is at a meeting 3 hrs away in the morning should I see if he can stay home incase or is it not really necessary?

Sorry to hear that. It's so hard, even when it's early days. I've had mc at 6 and 7 weeks - they get more uncomfortable the further along you are. The six week one (apart from the emotional stuff) wasn't too bad in terms of pain - I could still go out and about and (almost) ignore it as long as I had a hot water bottle when I got in. Hopefully you will have a relatively non-painful time of it at 5 weeks.

My friend has just had one at 6 weeks and she says it wasn't bad, just a little bit more painful and slightly heavier than her period. She was happy to do school runs and carry on as normal.

She didn't go to GP.

Thanks all. Off to GP this morning, keep having niggly pains on my left side, now paranoid it's ectopic, I know chances are it's not.
Feel silly as I keep crying as I'm only 5 weeks.

Yes but once you get that BFP, you usually do plan a baby's life. Understandable that you're very upset.

Very true. That's the worst bit, keep thinking of it as a little person which it obviously isn't, it just had the potential to be :(
Got a scan tomorrow just to rule out an ectopic but I've had loads of bleeding this afternoon so don't think they'll see anything.

aah Dilly, look after yourself, those preg hormones can be vicious little buggers when you miscarry, even very early on. Hopefully, it'll be through soon xx

I won't lie, mine hurt like a mother*. I took 2 highest strength prescription co-codamol that I take for my herniated disc and it didn't touch it, it was like labour contractions, well it WAS contractions. I had a missed miscarriage, was 9 weeks but measuring around 6 weeks.

The day after the scan telling us this I had huge clots the size of my hand coming away and then the baby in it's sac which I saw in the bottom of the loo. The main part was over in about and hour and a half.

Check out the practicalities of miscarriage thread in this board, I'll go and find it and bump it up and remember there are lots of people on here who know just what you are going through so keep posting x

I had one at 11 weeks that had stopped growing at 9, one at 10 that stopped growing at 5. Everyone is probably different, but with the latter one (5 weeks) I coped ok. Had to stay in at home back and forward from bathroom for a morning with heavy bleeding, took painkillers. By afternoon I was out and about. I could have left the house in the morning if I really had too.

I was on holiday and bloody minded about trying to have a good time. Look after yourself. Can someone help with school run?

My husband took today off to help with school run and our toddler.
He's planned to be off tomorrow do he can come to the hospital with me for the scan. Im pretty sure now they won't see anything as I've had a big gush of blood and clots tonight :(
I still have niggles on my left side as well a the cramping but I'd imagine it'd be excruciating if it was ectopic?

I think after I've Had the scan tomorrow morning I'll feel better as I'll know for sure it is all over.

I had niggling pain on one side or the other both times - it wasn't anything, just the hormonal cyst on the ovary going down. Obviously ectopic's not something you piss about with so if the pain gets worse, go to A&E, but you'll have tests to rule it out when you go to the scan appointment so don't panic unduly.

Definitely having a miscarriage.
Luckily there's no sign of ectopic pregnancy but I do have an ovarian cyst so that was probably what was causing the pains. The nurses In the early pregnancy unit were lovely which helped, can't be an easy job for them though.

Did your DH manage to get today off to stay with you?

It made it a bit more bearable because the nurses were very kind, I did burst into tears when the lady scanning me told me, even though it was what I was expecting.
My husband has been off yesterday and today so he was able to come to the scan and drs with me. Sometimes I moan about him bless him, but when it counts he's here for me :)
