How long will it take?

I started bleeding at 6+2 and have had heavy period like bleeding for around a week. I was told by GP that it was a miscarriage. I stopped bleeding a couple of days ago and did a pg test on Sat which was still positive and have done another one this morning. Still positive. How long can it take for the hormones to leave my system and is there anything I can do to speed it along? I am due to go for a scan on Wednesday to make sure everything has gone and once that's done I'd really like to start ttc ASAP but would like to wait till 1st AF. This has been so upsetting and I know from experience (had an mmc before my son) that the only thing that made me feel better was getting pg soon after. It just made all the "should have been" milestones and anniversaries so much easier to cope with. I'm sorry if that makes me sound callous, I don't mean to. It's just how I felt.

I don't have the answer to this as I had an Erpc after a mmc, but just wanted to say sorry you're going through this and good luck with getting another bfp asap.

Thanks Googie - that's my problem too. I had an ERPC when my first pregnancy ended in a mmc, so not really had any experience of a natural miscarriage or how long things take naturally. Sorry to her about your loss. It's shit isn't it? Hope you're ok and have support.

I had a mmc at Xmas and got on ttc straight away. I am not aware of any way to speed up the mc other than the medical intervention of eprc or pills but I have been told that ttc is fine as soon as bleeding stops after mc and that the preggo hormones still in your system will potentially help you to conceive again. So no need to wait for them to disappear.

I did not manage to conceive in the first cycle, but I did with the 2nd and am now 7 weeks. I have seen loads of stories on here of successful births for mums getting pg in the first cycle following mc.

Good luck with ttc and a successful easy pregnancy next time.

Thanks babybun. That's good to know. Will wait till the scan on Wednesday to make sure everything is gone and then get straight back on it! DH will be pleased!

Thanks Betty. How are you feeling at the mo? We waited just one month before ttc again and thankfully got my bfp straight away - am now nearly 31 weeks with a very squirmy baby! good luck! It does mean that the first three months (at least) were very stressful, but I'm really enjoying being pregnant now.

Actually, not one month, one period, which only took about five weeks after the erpc.

Congratulations Googie, that's encouraging! I'm feeling ok. I'm mainly angry to be honest. I lost my 1st baby and I kind of thought that was it, I'd had my
turn. I realise that sounds stupid and of course it's never anyone's , but I just feel it's incredibly unfair for it to happen again. I've always done all the stuff you're supposed to - I give up booze and all the food tou're supposed to, I take my preg vits as soon as we start ttc, I take care off myself and the baby. I always tell my work as soon as I get a BFP because I work in op theatres and can be exposed to x-rays, radiated materials, harmful chemicals and do a lot of hefting patients around. Of course this means that when it doesn't work out everyone knows and it's awful. Urgh. Sorry for the utterly self indulgent post! Just feeling that way today. Must feel grateful for the gorgeous little boy I have.

Not self indulgent at all Betty, it's all part of the healing stuff you need to go through or it'll just follow you around like a black cloud. Whinge all you like! It's really shit and I certainly felt shit for a few weeks.

Hey Betty, i had a natural MC at the end of January this year, at 5 wks 6 days. I bled for 6 days. My next period turned up exactly 28 days after the MC had started, so my cycle got straight back to normal.

We did lots of SWI that first month post-MC, but i I didn't get pregnant (and, incidentally, i don't think i ovulated, because i was using OPKs for the whole month and never got a positive result).

Anyway, that first period post-MC was pretty heavy but otherwise normal. Just over 2 weeks later I got my LH surge on cd17. Again, we did lots of SWI. My period was due yesterday and didn't arrive, and I got a faint BFP this morning!

Obviously it's very early days and I am shitting myself very nervous after what happened last time, but just wanted to share a positive story about getting a BFP again after a MC :)

Especially as earlier this week, after doing an early test on Thurs and getting a BFN, I was in floods of tears and telling my hubby I was sure it was never going to happen for us again!

Good luck and I really hope you get a BFP within the next couple of months :) xx
