I have just gone through my 1st mc and wondered if anyone could please help with a couple of questions?
I was 10 weeks and started bleeding quite lightly on Boxing Day,which continued up until last night. At around 3am I had the most awful stomach cramps, took some Paracetemol and went to the toilet, where I passed 3 small (20p sized) clots and then the sac Sad
There was hardly any blood and it continued to be pink in colour.
Still much the same today, but then had bad cramps again about an hour ago, took more Paracetemol and went to toilet and passed a large clot/liver looking type of thing, along with bright red blood and a few small clots.Have since been back to the toilet about 20 times as I'm scared I'm going to pass more clots and not make it there in time and I'm worried to go to bed, incase it happens in there too Sad
Still not a huge amount of blood but it's now present in the bowl, rather than just when wiping.
Just wanted to know how long I'm likely to bleed for and for how long afterwards am I likely to pass these clots? Also I was going to go to the EPU for a scan on Tuesday to check the miscarriage is complete, but after reading a couple of threads,I'm wondering if it is best to wait til the bleeding has stopped. It'll be an internal scan (as I checked with them) and tbh I don't fancy the prodding and poking with the way I'm feeling.
If anyone has any advice,I'd much appreciate it please.

Really sorry to hear what's happened. I had a MC at 7 weeks and had a D&C. They gave me the option of letting it go naturally but I just wanted to get the whole experience over to be honest. I think I bled for about 5 days after and then settled back down. 6 months later we were pregnant again (I waited for a cycle before trying) & despite another bleeding scare, we now have a lovely son. Hope you get through it OP.

hi bubbaloo
sorry to hear what you're going through. we had a m/c a few weeks ago, shuld have been 12 weeks. i bled a lot, passed a lot of clots, went to hospital for pain relief and to keep an eye on me as it happened quite quickly i was very pale. after a night in hospital i went for a scan (was still bleeding), i was sure i would have passed everything, had a scan (all internal as my womb is tilted), there were still two areas of retained products, i was advised to take the medication and passed more blood and clots. bled for about a week after being in hospital, had a scan 10 days after i left hospital, had stopped bleeding by then and still 1 area of retained product, so waiting another 10 days, if it's not much smaller they will recommend a d and c. midwife said keep wearing a pad as it might pass at anytime. couldn't believe that there was still stuff in there, was 100% sure all must have passed. i feel your pain not wanting prodding and poking but i think let them know you are bleeding (they've always asked me just before anyway) and i'd guess from my experience they will do it anyway and i did find it reasurring to know what was going on in there. you might bleed for weeks so i can't see them delaying it for that reason.
All experiences seem to be different so i guess it's impossible to say how long blood loss will last. i hope that helps, sorry to hear about your experience. keep in touch if you like throughout your journey if it helps. xxx

aboydid, so happy to hear of your happy ending, i'm clinging to stories like this to get through now.

Thanks for your replies.
I feel a little better today and the bleeding hasn't been so bad.
I did originally have a private scan booked for tomorrow evening,so I think I may phone them in the morning, tell them what has happened and see what they suggest.I may still have that scan,if they can still have a thorough look to check everything,by a tummy scan, rather than the internal scan that my local hospital would do.
Either way,I'll definately go and have the scan before the end of the week, which'll be better as dh is off work until Monday.
Will let you know how I get on.
Abigboy-how lovely that you now have your ds Smile

how's it going bubbaloo, how are you feeling?? Brew

Bubbaloo · 04/01/2012 20:27

Hugahuddy-I'm ok thanks.Obviously Dh and I are gutted this has happened, but emotionally I'm really not too bad at all.The pregnancy was actually a surprise, rather than something we planned,so maybe that's why I haven't been too bad. However, once over the initial shock,we were really looking forward to being parents again,so I think we may give it just one more shot Smile
I'm still bleeding and went for a private scan last night.Had a tummy scan 1st and then ended up with an internal one which was ok in the end.The sonographer had a good look and said she couldn't see anything left,so it looks like it has all come away now, which is a huge relief as the clots were quite scary,so hopefully there won't be any more.
Also, still a bit tender with on/off period type pains, but nothing like the cramps I had and not bad enough to need any painkillers.
How are you feeling now? xx

hi there. good luck with the one more shot! hope your bleeding has finished and pains stopped.
i went for scan on monday, still products remain, feels like it's really dragging on. have another scan in two weeks to check if still there, still talk of a d and c if not cleared. emotionally getting better. little concerned as we didn't know to abstain until the scan and have no idea of ovulation patterns, been 4 weeks since i was in hospital and no sign of period, on the one hand want it to come to start afresh, on the other hand have the odd thought about whether i could be pregnant, then have to stop myself, surely not and still small area of product remaining so might be a horrid environment.
how you doing?

Bubbaloo · 11/01/2012 00:29

Oh no,really feel for you, still going through this and still having an area that isn't clear yet.Hopefully all will be clear when you go back for your next scan.
I'm not too bad, thanks.I finally stopped bleeding yesterday and the pains have all stopped, thank goodness.Tbh it's quite a relief to get back to 'normal' in some respect.I took a pg test today just to make sure all the pregnancy hormones have left and I got a BFN,which will make things a little easier if we start ttc again soon.Have you done the same? Have you any idea how long it will take before AF returns? I haven't the foggiest and it didn't cross my mind at the time,to ask my gp
