When can we try again?

I got a positive pregnancy test a week ago, but now I am bleeding heavily. I don't know if it's technically a miscarriage when it's so early on (5 weeks) and I don't want to cause any offense by calling it that, but it's certainly the case that I thought I was pregnant but now I am not.

When is it ok to try again? Should we give it a rest for a month?

Since you have had a positive test you have had a very early miscarriage, sometimes referred to as a chemical pregnancy. Sorry for your loss, it is very disappointing no matter how early it happens. Hope you have seen a GP, just to get it on your medical record that you were pregnant and also you could ask for advice about trying again.

The general consensus is that you can go for it straight away if you feel ready. Since it happened early, your hormone levels should go back to normal quickly and you ought to have a period within 5-6 weeks, but it is fine to try in the meantime. If you haven't had a period within 6 weeks, do a pregnancy tests and/or see your doctor. If you aren't ready to get straight back to it then giving it a rest for a month or two is also fine.

good luck with ttc again and I hope it doesn't take you too long.
