How long for a period after an ectopic operation

Had a surprise ecotopic followed by emergency op 6 weeks ago. Drs said everything would be normal post op but still no period. Can anyone share how long their periods took to come back? Don't want to start trying again until I know I'm functioning normally but the wait is so frustrating.

I got mine after the equivalent of 2 cycles (my cycles are long) I figured I was probably due to ovulate from the side where I'd lost a tube. We started trying after 4 months and I fell quickly.

26 days after salpingectomy for me. I can't tell what that is as a proportion of cycle, as mine are so variable. It was extremely light, however. It lasted three days and I only needed a tampon once - the rest of the time it scarcely reached knickers/liner. My original periods (before I started mucking around with them to make them more normal for conception purposes) were very heavy and prolonged, so I am never quite certain now what counts as a period. But I think that this was it.

My op was in September as well, by the way. I'm sorry to hear you went htrough it too.

Just had an op last night. No wonder I was hurting! Turned out it was a rupture so am also left one tube down. This has come as a complete shock so I'm interested to hear your experiences. I didn't even think about how it would affect my period!

Northey · 03/11/2011 17:25

Southsearocks, I'm so sorry to hear that! Are you ok? It took a while for me to wonder about periods as well - basically once all the immediate fuss and bonkersness had worn off.

Hi Northey. Feeling bruised, physically and mentally. I feel really washed out and have no energy. It's just starting to sink in what has happened so I'm hoping in a few days to be feeling a bit better Sad

Northey · 03/11/2011 19:11

I really hope you do feel better in a few days, sweetie. I was very up and down after mine (I still am, in fact, 6 weeks later), so maybe be wary that you might have quite low periods even after you feel better. I know just what you mean about feeling mentally bruised - I was chatting gaily to the nurses, not an outward hint of distress, but feeling utterly stunned inside.

Are you safely home from hospital?

Give yourself some time, I had an ectopic and my left tube removed in April 2009 and it took several weeks to feel normal (ish) again. I think my periods took around 2 months to come back, your body knows when its ready to try again if you want to. I can remember feeling truly awful at the time and though that i'd never feel good again, but you get through it with a massive box of tissues.

It still makes me feel sad when I think about it now though.

I went on to have one DS and another on the way so it doesnt mean that your chances of conceiving are spoilt.
From my early scan the scanner could tell the egg that conceived my son made the journey from my left ovary all the way around to the right tube...pretty amazing stuff!

look after yourselves. x

Good to hear that, thank you xx

I had the op to remove my right tube on 4th June 2005. The docs recommended waiting for my first "normal" period before TTC again. I bled about 2 weeks later but I counted that as my normal period even though I'm not really sure that it was and tried right away.

Doc had told me 50% chance of conception as only have one tube left - got pregnant again right away !! DD was born 15 days early on 30th March 2006.

Your body will settle back to normal and you still have every chance of conceiving again. In the meantime, look after yourself and you will know when you are ready. x

had period of sorts about 10 days ago so it was about 7 weeks in the end and am normally on a 27 day cycle so hoping I'll get another in a couple of weeks so I can start trying to conceive again. going back to get iron levels tested again this week but feel a lot better and am less depressed everytime I see a pregnant person.

Southsearocks/Northey - having other people out there who've just been through this is so comforting. I hope you are both OK. its truly miserable what nature throws at you and it scares me that in the old days people died from this.

Lets hope we all get pregnant soon and life goes on. Thanks everyone else for your positive and happy stories.

I had the salpingectomy on 23rd Oct and my period just came back tonight. I hope it wont be very heavy. :) I had 2 weeks light bleeding after the operation.
