6 weeks and bleeding...

Im 6+4 weeks pregnant.
I started having period pains this morning, they were really mild though so i didn't think too much of it as i felt like this a couple of weeks ago too and people told me its normal.
I went to the loo about an hour ago and i'm bleeding, quite heavily.

What do i do? Is it worth going up to a+e as i think i know whats happening anyway. Please help me :-(

I am so sorry to hear about this.
Unfortunately, the bad news is that there's really nothing the docs will be able to do for you at this point.
Bleeding like that usually results in the loss of the baby when it happens before 12 weeks. From that point on there is a chance that the baby will survive.
You will probably experience a fairly normal period now, maybe a little heavier than normal.
You should go to the doctors though, just to check that there is nothing left at the end and that you show no signs of any internal problems at all.

It is such a shame, but I hope you can take some comfort from knowing that you were able to conceive and knowing that the baby was probably unable to survive and that it is therefore better that it happened so early rather than later on.

laura poor you!

I would definitely go to the docs or the EPU where they can a tleast doa blood test to check your HCG levels. Some people bleed quite heavily even at this early stage and go onto have a healthy baby and others do not. There is no way of telling and nothing you can do (like bed rest for example) to stop it happening.

Hugs

I know exactly what you are going through laura as I've just been through an early miscarriage. Please go along to your local clinic and get a blood test done, as the not knowing is a killer. I had gone through IVF and was tested positive after 4 weeks. On week 5 I started bleeding, although it was very light. I was told by my fertility clinic that it was probably implantation bleeding but to go along for a blood test so they could test my HCG levels. Anyway, it ended up that my HCG levels had dropped and the chances of the embryo surviving was slim. I found out just a week ago, after a second blood test that I had definitely lost the embryo. I bled in total for 11 days and only on the last 3 days was the bleeding heavy.

Hopefully it is just implantation bleeding in your case, but for your peace of mind (and sanity) I urge you to get it checked out. Let us know what happens. Good luck.

laura, i know what you are going through i started bleeding last monday at 6 weeks. i went to the hospital and had a scan on thursday( i just needed to know ) the nurse told me they could not see the baby and that i had a mc. i felt awful but better for knowing, so my advice is go to the EPU. hopefuly it is a breakthrough bleed and you will be fine good luck. can i just say this site really helped me as my partner just kept on saying it will all be alright but as a woman i think we just know!

I'm in exactly the same situation. I called the EPU, they just said to wait for the bleeding to stop. Then a week later take a pregnancy test. If it's still positive then call my GP.

That was it. I appreciate that there is nothing they can do to stop the inevitable but the midwife just seemed so flippant.
